I referenced Dandy Don to ask a question about Claiborne's measurables...so go apeshit.

Why don't we go after an actual position of need right now? You know, like LB? What if we can't get Bostic or Jones.
The word is rest your worries about Jones. FYI

Hicks and Claiborne weren't even on the radar screen. This has been a most unusual recruiting season. We must be giving up on some of the big fish.

yeah, that's what's happening. Coaching staff just saying "frick it."

I saw it. I am just tired of reading about everybody losing their f'ing minds the last two weeks.
I will say I am shocked. Well, suprised is a better word. I didn't have either of them on the radar. I thought with limited scholly's and the number of high ranked players we were looking at that we would have held off on the DT spot. Egg made a great post on the cornerback spot and makes good sense. I just don't see why we couldn't wait till next year to make a run at some other DB's and try a little bit more to lock up some of the other guys we are shooting for. Even if a few DB's transfer, I think we are deep enough there to hold off a year. I don't think we had to take the last two commitments this early in the game but what the hell do I know. I do believe Les knows talent when he sees it so obviously I'll defer to their decisions. And, we obviously don't have the in house recruiting info to be seeing things the way they do.

That's not what I'm saying. We have 22-23 schollys at best. This signing puts us at 18. If ESPN is correct about Loston, then that's 19. We have to come with another LB or two out of necessity. I personally don't know anything about this guy. He may be the second coming of Darrell Green for all I know. Just surprises me that we are going with Hicks and Claiborne while on the short list of so many superior players with so few schollys left.

My reaction is the same as many of the posters above. Why are we wasting a slot on this guy when there are better players available?
And please, spare me the lecture about Miles' infallible talent evaluation. I never said Miles couldn't evaluate talent. However, I'd rather have a five star player ranked in the Top 100 than an unknown longshot. (First poster to mention Hester gets a virtual pimp slap.)

I think "wasting" might be a bit extreme, eh?

Here's the thing..........by the time the FINAL rankings come out, he will be ranked. If you go to scout, click on 2010 we have offered a bunch of 1 star people.........oh no.........
He'll be a 3 or 4 star when the final rankings come out because with thousands of athletes across the country playing good football every year, sometimes the rankings just plain miss people, sometime they evaluate them before they have really begun to grow, improve, and develop. Just my attempt at a contribution to the logic.

The thought here is that we need a DE/DT to come in and be ready to play next year. Hicks does this. HE IS A BEAST BY ALL ACCOUNTS. 6'6" 285 and funning a 4.89 does not grow on trees. There has been speculation that there will be a decent amount of attrition at the CB position. This will make that position a need in this class and the coaches are very high on MC. Also, this reminds me alot of the QB situation. Everyone was bitching when we accepted the commitment from CG, but now that looks like a good decision huh? It might not make sense to everyone looking on the outside, but there is a lot more we don't know happening on the inside.

So if MC was recruited as a 2nd CB in this class where do we play Drayton Calhoun?
