RP hurt bad..that is the reality
If we would play the best O-Linemen and had a O-line coach who would get off his fat butt and concentrate on teaching technique, fundamentals and attention to details we wouldn't be discussing our record, recruiting and other problems. RP was like putting a piece of shite in a gallon of vanilla ice cream. It ruins it for everyone. Recruit character.

Yeah, the RP excuse gets old. Not having a capable backup or a QB depth chart two years later is questionable.
I don't question Miles ability to recruit. He is elite in that category, but have to wonder about his recruiting for need. That would be my only problem.

So with RP we would have succeeded even with the poor O-Line play?
Or
With better O-Line play we didnt need RP?

Your wrong MF. We'll see at the end of next season who's right. Miles and the staff will be gone, yet LSU will be able to maintain the 2011 in-state recruits because its LSU, its the fricking state university. You don't know what the frick is going on.
Please stop posting ..NOW!

If its so easy to recruit to LSU, and so easy to keep in state kids, then how do you explain the 90s?
Hallman, Archer, Dinardo.... LSU didnt start keeping big time in state recruits consistently until Saban hauled in the Spears/Clayton class. That was a turning point in recent LSU football. With some shmuck at the helm LSU would go right back to letting the Applewhites, Dunns, and Reggie Waynes of the world to go to OOS schools.
You really dont know anything about recruiting or hell LSU history for that matter huh

I think both are correct. RP would have been able to cover up a lot of the shortcomings of the oline and a good oline would have been able to cover the shortcomings of JJ or JL.
Combined i think it made for the perfect (shite)storm
JMO though

RP wouldn't have had anymore success than JJ. Scott's run production should tell people something about the O-Line based on his dramatic decline in stats from the year before. Did Scott become a piece of shite or was the O-Line just that bad?
Billy Cannon wouldn't have been able to run behind our O-Line. The O-Line and the coaching of same was the problem. I read in the paper that Stud told Miles he was going to worker harder next year. What did he do this year, sit on his butt? Based on some of the selected starters and their performance, one has to assume he sat on his butt. No excuse for the poor O-Line performance. The blame is squarely on Stud.

Do you think the cursing helps you make your point?
When did you start following LSU? 2003? 2000? It is obvious you know nothing of the 90's and earlier.

Son, you really should look at some program history. There have been long stretches over the past 30 years or so when the best Louisiana prospects went to places like FSU, UF, or 'Bama. Yes, you'll always have in-state prospects that want to stay home and play for the State U, no matter how good or how bad the program is, but the elite prospects, those who attract attention from everywhere, usually want to go where they can compete for championships. They might prefer to stay home, all things being equal, but in the end, they want to win and if the State school can't offer that, they'll go somewhere else. It was Saban who put up the fence around La. and started convincing the cream of the state's recruits to stay home, and Miles has done a great job of maintaining that situation. Not even Saban has been able to come into La. and steal the state's top prospects over the past couple of years. That's because of Miles.

While I completely agree with almost all of your post, I would say that DiNardo did more heavy lifting at LSU than Saban. Dinardo took the program from nothing to a program that would fire a coach after two losing seasons. Saban used Dinardo's recruits to establish a base to build upon.

I don't like to bash coaches but when coaches make certain statements they tend to bash themselves. When Lou Tepper said it would take a player four years to learn his defense, it should have been clear that a serious problem was headed our way. History tells the story about that statement.

I agree 100%. I don't think many posters realize the impact that had on the program. That being said, LM is responsible for making sure the program has another QB ready to step in, and he failed miserably at that the past two years.

I respectfully disagree. Remember, Miles was lucky to get Perrilloux his first year because of his late start. (Saban didn't have ANY QBs in the fold, apparently, and Perrilloux said at the time that he wouldn't have come to LSU if Saban were still here. I've never been able to figure out why Saban neglected the QB spot his last couple of years...unless he already had a good idea he was leaving.) Miles DID bring in a QB the year after Perrilloux signed (Jarrett Lee) and another one the next year (Jefferson). (I forget which year Hatch came in, but there's a third QB.) None of them was ready to take over in '08, however. When Perrilloux was kicked off the team, there was NO QB with his experience ready to take over, and blame for that falls on Saban. Miles obviously knew what a blow it was going to be to lose Perrilloux. (As some have pointed out, not only did it hurt the W-L record, but has probably hurt recruiting a little this year.) But Miles did the right thing and kicked him off the team anyway. To me, that shows a lot of character.

You make a good point. DiNardo certainly did a lot to wake up the sleeping giant. He just couldn't take LSU beyond a certain level.
