i have a feeling that we will sweat Davis' commitment out until signing day.
My thoughts also, but he was quoted on some of the other sites saying..."I'm going home and focusing all my energy on recruiting...we are gonna have the best class in the nation."
He may prove to be the Russell Shepard of this class.

Does anyone know why Texas passed on him?
Texas may not have formally offered, but that doesn't necessarily indicate they weren't recruiting Davis; just that he didn't fall all over himself at the prospect of a UT offer. They don't even show up as one of his preferred choices.
My impression of Mack's strategy with many of the in-state kids is that he takes a "we'll offer you if you will commit" approach. I believe that's how he locks up talent so early in the process. He pursues the talented kids who truly want to be at UT, and it really seems to work for them given the amount of talent in Texas.
He seems to shy away from offering kids from Texas that have national appeal, are open to going out of state and that don't appear to be strong Texas leans. He only competes very selectively.

I think you are dead-on, but he competed for McFarland this year, and he will do the same thing with Lache this year, even though he has implied that he will not sign until NSD (or at least the All-Star games).
For some reason, he doesn't seem to value Davis as much as those two. Looks like it's Mack Brown's loss though since he seems like a hell of a player.

Just because he is from Texas?

When JJ Redick went to the free throw line during a game in college, did you have a "gut feeling" that he would miss because he was only a 92% foul shooter?

are there any free links to his highlights? hear he can ball.
If we lock up Trovon Reed, is there anyone else we would persue?

Possibly James Wright, the receiver from Belle Chasse.

Mike Davis is the only of LSU's three commits that is pretty highly touted, correct? I don't see the others being predicted all that high, unless I'm missing something.

Well, Nick Jacobs is also in the Rivals 250 for 2010. I don't think he is at the same level as Mike Davis, but he still seems like a pretty legit guy.

Mike Davis is sick.
Solid Solid receiver who is as polished as any we've signed lately. Just needs to bulk up.

Thanks, I'm guessing Mike will be in the first top 100 list.

Nelson,Jeffcoat,Wilson,Hicks,I can name a few more they are not Texas leans at all and they have offers in hand.
Dixon,Espinosa,Bible,Cotton,Benson,Wood,Terrell, and Hopkins all have national appeal.
Congrats with so many WR in Texas this year a lot of teams will get quality players. Good pick up and most importantly thanks for stealing him from OU.
