I think it does tell us a lot on Hurley.. I think him enrolling early was a huge mistake.. He is still 17 years old. If Van Buren takes that #2 spot, that is a very steep hill for Hurley to climb to leap frog Van Buren the next season. I agree they had to bring in a qb regardless, but there’s also a reason they brought in the guy they did

This is more about Underwood than Hurley. He wouldn’t necessarily have been ready to be a backup either, but they don’t get a guy from the portal if he comes. They got Van Buren because they were looking for a young QB with the potential to be a starter long term. You need at least two in the program at any given time. If Bryce Baker had not re-committed to UNC, I don’t think they take Van Buren either. They were just forced into a situation where they needed a young portal QB with high potential. That came with the likelihood that he would expect to be the backup right away. It’s about needing two young guys, not about some question with Hurley.

You also said Collins took the spot from Swann.. Which is incorrect

Collins was the first guy in to relieve Nuss before the OU game. He had replaced Swann as the backup before he told the coaches he was going to transfer.

Hell of an offer list for a “lowly” 3 star.

My only question is can he hit the numbers on a crossing route. Accuracy is everything.

That’s a solid pickup. Assuming Swan stays (he may not now) gives us two guys behind Nuss with SEC starting experience. That’s a better backup situation, especially if Hurley takes a step forward this offseason.

“Lyin’ Kelly isn’t really serious about the portal.”

Swann came in for Nuss against UF. Swann was the backup. The early plan was to redshirt Swann which is why he didn’t come in during mop up time. You are incorrect.

He’s pretty much a more mobile Nuss.

So he throws off his back foot right to safeties cornerbacks for no reason?

In all seriousness, this is great. Nuss should not be our QB1.

And the sad thing is, Nuss can run. He just doesn’t. Bet he wishes he did now.

That’s a plausible explanation for the pattern of substitutions, but since LSU does not release official depth charts, it’s hard to say that with any degree of certainty. Regardless of the reason, Collins did get playing time during the season, so there’s no reason to think a similar thing couldn’t happen with Hurley next season if they try to salvage a redshirt for Van Buren.

Hester needs to get Matt Wyatt on the show tomorrow to talk about him. If I remember correctly LSU was recruiting him when he was coming out of St. Frances.
