Full disclosure, I am not his dad but his dad was one my teammates at Crowley High. His father is Shane Garrett. Shane played college football at Texas A&M from 88-92, drafted by the Bengals and played a few years of Pro ball. Shane was a dynamic WR in his day and would easily rate as a high 4 to 5 star recruit with today's recruiting rankings.

Marquis should soon have a profile on 247 and other recruiting sites, so I am not sure what star ranking he would have. If I had to guess, he would start out as a 3. His father told me he has a QB offer from Tulane and a WR offer from both Tulsa and University of Houston. He has the ability to play QB but he is truly a WR/Athlete playing QB, which is what we often see with kids like this. He has good size 6'3" 180lbs and runs a 4.5 40 yard dash.

Keep and eye on him his senior year as he may get greater recruiting exposure. He has already attended some camps and I believe LSU was one of them. No offer yet from LSU. He has had interest from other SEC schools, but no offers yet.

Marquis is such a great athlete. I think his best spot will be WR. Like most high schools, they just stick the best athlete at QB.

I'd like to also call out Crowley's RB Obadiah Butler and DL Kendal Harmon. Both can definitely play somewhere in college. Obadiah is very quick/fast, but the biggest issue is he is so small.

I'm just seeing this thread now. My son is on the team and works with Marquis. He says Marquis gets lots of letters from all kinds of colleges. I think some of the smaller colleges are recruiting him hard. We'll see how this year goes. I think Crowley High is gonna be good. Lots of good, disciplined kids on the team, which means something in High School.
