I just don't want to risk wasting any scholarships...I'll take Hampton if it doesn't put us at risk...I think he's going to be really good, so I hope to be able to use a spot on him.

Why do you think my making a joke at Mike Scarborough's expense is being angry. I was smiling when I posted that and somehow your pea-brain comes up with me being angry.
Stick to the subject. You are wasting space with your misguided drivel.

Now I understand why.

Yeah, last year when LSU had to use a wasted scholarship on Jeaux Burreaux it was pretty bad.

Lol, I seldom post, I don’t look for people to agree or disagree with me buddy. Tell me what’s positive about people talking shite about guys we are recruiting very hard, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.
Your post is ridiculous and by looking at the the downvotes you’re receiving I’m not the only one.
Communist country safe space lol wow youre a fricking softball

Reading comprehension, bro...I don't want to waste a scholarship, as in I don't want to let Hampton sign, have him pick baseball in June, and then lose the scholarship entirely that we had given him.
Obviously us having a scholarship to give Burrow last year means that we didn't waste a scholarship at the time.

My bad.
I agree. I don't see why they don't sign Hampton until they know for sure what he will do. There is NO WAY he or his family can say for sure what they will do when presented with a chance for a lot of money in four months.

Also, WTF would a school lose a scholarship if that scholarship isn't used? If we let Hampton sign with us, and then he picks baseball, why do we lose his scholarship?
Am I missing some super cereal point here that gives merit to this seemingly retarded rule?

Its no different than giving a scholarship to a kid that wont qualify. You take the risk knowing the alternatives and willing to accept the consequences.

Right, but I don't like it...I think it's dumb. If a kid signs and doesn't qualify, the school should be able to give that scholarship to another player. I can see how losing that spot for the cycle might be proper, but I think it should at least carry over to the next cycle.

With regard to Hampton, it does seem dumb, but if you think about it in terms of non-qualifiers, it's not so bad. Before the rule change, teams could sign guys who were unlikely to qualify with very little penalty because they would get the spot back for future classes. Now, they have to be careful since the spot will be gone. I like that it places added emphasis on academics.
I think it's dumb in situations like Hampton (MLB draft) or Seth Stewart (from our 2017 class who just straight up quit football after a couple of days on campus).

Yeah, I think giving the schollie back in the same class could cause issues, but I feel like those issues don't remain if you give the schollie back in the next class.
I feel like a middle ground would be better. The current scenario feels more like a penalty than anything else.

If you sign a guy and he never makes it to campus (grades, baseball, whatever reason), you lose the scholarship forever.
Posted on 1/31/19 at 1:35 pm to OppositeMan
Well, you never got it back in the same class simply because of the timing. I don't think anything regarding grades is official until transcripts are final which is in the summer.
Sometimes clearinghouse issues are still trying to be resolved well into fall camp.
