If college gymnastics got the same attention paid to it as football does, I can guarantee you that some really big names wouldn't be coaching any more and a lot of titles would be vacated.

Leebern said that “on paper,” Jay Clark, who replaced Yoculan Leebern after the 2009 season, should have worked as a head coach.
I think they made a mistake and let go of Jay too early, which worked out great for LSU. The expectations were so high at the time, and he needed a little more time to figure out how the differences in his style translated into results.

Most definitely... plus she played the “will she or won’t she retire” game for awhile and naturally it had an effect or recruiting.

So, do we need some NCAA action to cut back on these middle school commits? I am thinking the restraining recruiting to high school juniors in Softball should apply to all sports.
Until you started posting this information, I had no idea that girls were committing so far ahead in so many sports!

I thought they had changed the rules for recruiting and that it began this past year. However, some of the kids have been in contact before that rule took place so maybe they are grandfathered in? Not sure, though. I just really thought they changed the rule recently.

Looks like people are starting to take commits for 2022, which is extremely early. I will say for gymnastics of all sports you can better evaluate kids at a younger age. Con is the impacts of this sport by the time kids are 17 or 18 years old, just a lot of injuries.

If I had to make a prediction on LSU's first 2022 commit it would be Annie Beard!

It will be interesting to see who may transfer to LSU. Have you heard any word on who might come? We could use a strong beam and vault worker.I really hope Jay will consider moving Sami further back in the bar line up next season. She is too good for her routine to be used on first up. The judges rarely ever give the first routine a top score. I realize Sami needs work on sticking the dismount but the rest of the routine is great.

Lizzy Leduc is suppose to announce pretty soon, some close to her think she will head to OU. I know earlier this year we had some interest in her as a transfer and she came in for a visit but she has been to OU multiple times over the last month

One option that does remain is the possibility of one of our 2019 commits to come in a year early. I imagine if that does happen we won't hear until sometime this summer.

In terms of bar workers next year, I am with you. She needs to be moved out the damn lead off spot. She deserves way better than the scores she receives at lead off. I would expect to see Dean and Campbell see a lot of opportunities next season on bars. This season they kept pushing Kirby on bars for whatever reason

hate to be the bearer of bad news but there is a pretty decent/good chance Kelley won't take on a medical red-shirt if she has a good senior year. A lot of talk points to opting out of that medical RS but it will depend on how her senior year is

There will be some uprades on vault and floor this offseason from what I am hearing

Is Irina Alexeeva considering NCAA? I just watched her floor from Russian Championships and couldn’t believe how much she reminded me of Courville.

Do you think we may adopt some of the "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em" attitude on floor next year? Meaning do some of the things some other teams do in regard to tumbling passes/landings, as well as have a few girls do the more "fun" routines?

Our daughter was an Elite Gymnast during the mid 80's and early 90's and we were always told that judges liked the necessary beam requirements (no more or less)with a whole lot of salesmanship including snazzy movements appealing to the eye. That is exactly how Oklahoma has thrived on beam. Each one of their routines has this combination. Too many skills (that are not needed)can interfere with the performance of the gymnast. They are burdened with making the next big skill and pay less attention to the in between moves that can sell the routine. Some gymnasts can handle skill packed routines but others just go through the motions without any finesse. IMO some of our beam routines could benefit from moves that catch the eye.

It is good to hear about the upgrades on vault and floor. Sarah Finnegan's all around score will soar if she can upgrade on vault. She is also capable of double fronts and lay outs on floor. She competed them in the elite circuit over the years. Also, Sarah Edwards is powerful enough to upgrade on floor. She has the charisma to sell a routine.

I'm with you

To me and from speaking with some judges, they really really like routines that flow and move continuously.

The artistry elements and the flow between one skill to the next is where I personally think we can try to be a bit better in. Some do a skill, then there is a brief pause of rest before the next skill and sometimes it comes cross as a bit of a hesitation. I would like to see more artistry and flow between the elements, but maybe I am bein too picky LOL

I agree about Sarah Edwards’ charisma. She is cute as a bug with a bubbly personality. Hope to see her on floor next year.

Sarah just needs to do the 1 1/2 next year, she seemed to have it down consistently late in practice this season but it was too late to try to implement it. She was hammered on vault all year no matter what she did, might as well throw a 10.0 at this point. Sarah still trains a double layout at times but they like the first pass she does now, its very different from stuff you normally see across the NCAA, a lot of bonus too.

Maybe I am the only one thinking this but it seems like front double full's (E) were hammered a bit by judges over the last couple years compared to other skills such as double layouts. Edwards last salto pass needs to be changed.

Campbell competed a tucked full in at level 10 on floor. Desiderio can do way more difficulty than what she already does but I am not sure if they want to even adjust it. She will score 9.95's and 10's before its all over.

I would not count on Priessman as a mainstay on floor next year, we likely will have two new routines. Obviously if Mckenna is back to a decent place she will take one spot but the other one will be up in the air.

It'll be interesting to see what the staff does with next years sophomores on vault. I think this year's freshman will see a much expanded role next season, most were so beat up to start the season that we couldn't even work routines onto the floor.

DD is suppose to be back on the recruiting trails this coming week

Since she only competed two yeas of her first three years in school doesn't the redshirt option just automatically exist?Athletes generally have 5 years to play four seasons.

Is it just her choice to not push herself any more with her medical history?
