Kind of disappointed with Jay on the Tigers Win interview. He still doesn’t think routine construction on beam is a problem. Said basically the gymnasts have been doing these same routines for years and he doesn’t anticipate any changes. Sounds like the same for bars.

Just because they do a routine for years doesn't mean there isn't something wrong with it.

I haven't seen the interview but I don't know how you don't see the struggles on beam and can say "no changes". Even if its training, routine construction, or mental preparation.

Hopefully it’s coach speak and they go and make the necessary adjustments behind closed doors.

With all that said, kudos to Jay for these new hires! These are great gets for this program

Well, Jay still doesn't see the need to ditch "rotating leaps" so it appears.

Unbelievable. What a disappointment in coaching.

Maybe his pride keeps him from coming out and admitting there were some problems with routine construction (I.e. coaching). Hopefully, he does recognize the need for some adjustments and will quietly make them, despite his public statements.

We will find out in the fall but I imagine Courtney would give recommendations and feedback on that once they hit the ground running. She did so when she was at Utah in addition to floor.

From a recruiting perspective, things got much more interesting. They have a lot of ties to the elite circuit and many prominent gyms.

Excited about what Courtney does with our floor.

It's incredible that LSU just brought on 2 great coaches and all you people want to focus on is the negative aspect of everything because you don't like the routine construction how about the fact that we just got too great coaches on staff

I was just responding to that post by that poster plus that interview just came out this morning, so people of course are going to discuss it. That said This is an A+ hire in my book by Jay. Two proven coaches who are well respected in the gym community who add a lot to this program. It will be exciting to see the impact they bring and what new ideas they bring to the table.

You can be excited about the coaches and disappointed in the comments about routine construction at the same time. I, like others, hope that some fresh perspective will help push us to the next level!

Oh I’m very excited about the hire, too! I’m sorry if my post sounded negative. I was just responding to the comments expressing disappointment in Jay’s statements about not seeing the need for any changes. I’m very limited in my knowledge of the technical aspects of gymnastics. I’m really just a fan of the team and the sport in general. But all season long, the people who do know a lot about gymnastics have noticed some things that could be done to maximize the scores. And it doesn’t take an expert to figure out that some things (like particular bar dismounts) result in unnecessary deductions.

I think we are all pleased to have these outstanding coaches join LSU. We just KNOW by watching through the years what has plagued beam and floor routines. It's OK to express hope for change.

Well I originally made the post regarding the interview. We all know how stubborn Jay can be at times. Yes, I totally agree that the Griffeth’s are a great hire. Heck I thought they were a great fit at Arkansas under Mark Cook. Was sad when they didn’t get offered the job when Cook retired (although we soon learned that Wieber was Yurachek’s main focus) and no one would argue with that. I think the Griffeth’s will be great in recruiting as well. But I stand by my comments on routine construction. It has to change. We’ve been saying it for years.

I honestly had no issues with floor, with the exception of Haleigh doing an easier dismount but I think Courtney will address that. Im excited to see her choreography with that group. Adding Aleah to that floor group is gonna be insane.

That Utah series gonna be fun

I finally had time to listen to the interview. (Cliffs)

-He mentions not changing things with returning seniors routine since they have done it for so long but says they could change things with younger kids to make them more consistent. Is against difficult mounts and difficult dismounts, no mention of any leaps so that leaves the door open a little.

-Says there will be changes to preparation in physical conditioning for summer and fall to get kids in a better place to do routines and stay healthy.

-Jay says they will have to make changes to address the mental preparation. What they see in the gym and competition are not matching in spots. Says that is one reason for why they haven't changed routines.

-Campbell will basically only do beam this year due to strain on body due to her history. Smart, will allow her to maximize her gymnastics and stay healthy.

-Says Kai has potential to make a big impact this coming season. Calls her an alpha dog with high scoring potential.

-Expresses concern on keeping every kid happy (opportunities to compete). Will have to balance that out.

All in all, it sounds like there will be some changes. He didn't directly say it but it sounds like not much will change with the returning seniors but things could go to the drawing board for everyone else. Expresses the importance of being mentally tough and trying to improve that. Aleah will be a major impact. Tatum and Johnson come in highly decorated and can contribute in many areas but says it depends on how they come in (physically).

I did sorta chuckle at Jay talk about not "doing too much on bars" in terms of adding skills and then I immediately thought of Alyona's freshmen year on bars

Well that sounds very exciting, and definitely not same old same old! I can’t wait for January! Not only to see our new staff in action, but also to be personally back in the Pmac after 2 long years. I’ve missed it so! And also optimistic that I’ll be back in Fort Worth in April. It’s been too long since I’ve been to nationals, too.

Skye is my #1! I love her. Konnor would be next and then maybe Fatta and Miller (bars obviously!). I also like Morgan Price but I think she may follow her sister Frankie to Arkansas. And kind of think the same thing with Skye and Sloan at Florida. This is tough. Sorry I can’t really pick 3.
