From a politics standpoint, I think the wrong decision.

That's because you're not considering the likely sequence of events.
1 Hootie is offered by LSU
2 Hootie selects Bama
3 LSU, in recovery mode, goes after Jamal
4 (guesswork) Jamal says he'll commit, but only if LSU assures him they aren't going to sign Hootie or any other new safeties. LSU agrees and gives their word.
5 Hootie decommits Bama, but it's too late. LSU has already given their word.

and

6. (also guesswork) There is no guarantee that if LSU went back to Hootie that he wouldn't have recommitted to Bama anyway. I think the LSU staff made the best choice.

Is he the QB who decommitted from LSU when J. Russell committed? Matt Flynn was already committed, also.

And he was switched to TE at Ole Miss

Create depth...... He was obviously confused, you AT least try to see what's going on with him! I mean it doesn't matter now but I don't see our staff doing a great job? Not knocking em at all but you spent 2 or 3 years on a guy then stop, and have waisted all that time not going after someone else! Could oftalked to Jamal a long time ago and gotten a commit from him and then moved on to someone else. I just don't see it how a lot of people do, LSU is a place people want to come to from all over yet we aren't going after them until the end of it? Really I'm talking about our Dline here and secondary a couple years ago. We should land the best every year! Our Dline should be one of the best right now. Yes I know our whole class left and looks like this will keep happening so we need to step it up, spend more money on recruiting and efforts, surely it pays you back!
