I'm starting to understand the reasoning behind hiring JJ and I'm thinking he's our best possible hire right now. According to various recruiting sites the Dallas/FW area is producing more high end talent than any other major city. 3 five star players in 2012, 4 in 2013, and 2 so far for 2014. Houston puts out its share of D1 players as well. Trent is no dummy and its not a coincidence that he chose a school in a talent-rich city. By hiring Jones we get a guy who will really sell the program he loves and who also knows the Dallas/FW area as well as anyone. If he can just lock down LA and be in on a few Dallas or Houston kids every year we should really be in business. It might also be pretty nice to beat out Trent in a recruiting battle from time to time. It would be pretty damn funny if JJ turned out to be Trent's nemesis in the Dallas area recruiting game

You're either a moron or a troll. Either way, we would ask you to refrain to such talk on this board until the guy is at least formally announced as our coach.
And 2 posts later another poster lists 5 players...make sure you call them names as well...

Added Swilling to the list. I have mixed feelings about him as a player. I think he's a decent player, but I would rather have Hammink and Coleman. Signing all of them is a lot of wing players, to go along with Turner, Isaac, Stringer and possibly Courtney (depending on his position).
Apparently Jones had been scouting and recruiting him at North Texas, because even prior to Jones' hiring, Swilling seemed confidant that he would get an LSU offer is Jones was hired.

Swilling and Rico have to be a package deal. I can't see ANY other reason to use a spot on him I hate to say it

Other than being from New Orleans, what's the connection between them? I don't see it. I think it's more that Swilling is already coming and wants Rico to come as well.
Interested to see how this all works out with so many similar players. Several different scenarios:
1. We sign them all -- we need the bodies and have scholarships available.
2. We only sign a few of them.
3. We sign them all -- several current players not returning.

I'm sure they are friendly and know each other.

Jones also is looking for assistant coaches to help him with some of the work. It's likely his top recruiter at North Texas, Shawn Forrest, will follow him to Baton Rouge if Forrest isn't promoted to head coach of the Mean Green. Forrest, a strong recruiter in the Dallas Metroplex, was being courted by newly hired Kansas State coach Bruce Weber.
From the Times-Picayune.
That would be sweet to have Louisiana and DFW ties. Throw in Houston and a few Mississippi kids, and that's really all you need.

Isn't it funny how now we have more than enough good candidates to fill the 3 assistant spots?

If this is the class it would give CJJ so many option the next few classes.
1) If Hickey Xfer's we have his replacement in Hammink a 6'5 PG
2) if JOB goes PRO after his SO season, we would have between 3 or 4 Scholarship for 2013
3) In 2014 Coach would have 5 Scholarship to offer because next year's team would have 5 Jr on it.
these next few days will be fun
I would guess that Hickey is not going anywhere. Unless the hardship waiver to be closer to home is more than just a rumor. Hickey and JOB stay and JJ brings a completely different attitude to the team.

Bubba:
I value your insight on LSU basketball recruiting bc there's not much out there on it. But one thing that's crossed my mind that I haven't seen said so far is this and it's based off assumptions alone on the recruiting class bc we haven't seen it completed yet. But let's say LSU signs Coleman, Hammink, swilling, to go along with Morgan and hopefuly a big. Maybe for next year LSU will put out a lineup similar to what Missouri used last year. 4 wings and a big. You'd have Hickey, Stringer, Turner, Issac, Morgan, Swiling, Coleman, and Hammink as wings. O'bryants the big. Hope we can land atleast one more big in this class. Then you still have Ludwig and Courtney who could play the 3/4. Maybe Jones gets these wings this year and goes with an uptempo possibly pressing philosophy and LSU will be set in the backcourt for the next few years. Then in 2013 go get some bigs.

Update on Hammink. This is a few days old, but was originally a premium story. No longer premium:

“Shane has not committed to anybody yet, but LSU is certainly in his top three or four schools. I’m an alumnus and my wife is an alumnus. Shane was born in Baton Rouge. He would always include LSU on his list, but he’s not going to go to college just for fun.
“It’s his decision to make, but with Coach Jones there, I would fully advise him that I think LSU is a good place for him.”

“He flies under the radar in America because none of the recruiting services know about these kids in Europe,” Geert Hammink said. “I’m his father, but I don’t mind saying he’s a very good player.”

That's not a very promising quote.

Well, he's not going to Florida. They just got a commitment from a similar player -- their 4th wing commitment this year.
Out of the remaining schools, LSU would seem the logical choice. However, other schools could now be involved. I still think LSU will sign him.

Good news with Florida.
It seems like Geert is pushing him to LSU, but giving him the final decision. From the articles I read, I'd be surprised if he doesn't end up at LSU.
Is there any timetable on Coleman? I know he doesn't have to sign since he is JUCO, but has there been any indication on when he may make his decision? I think he is our biggest need in this class.

He does need to sign. 4-year transfers don't have to sign.
He had previously said that when LSU hired a coach, he would like to come back down on an unoffical visit. I don't really know.
I guess Jones has to re-recruit him. This is all assuming that Jones still wants him.

With Hamilton gone don't they have 6 spots to fill instead of 5?
Posted on 4/16/12 at 10:58 am to chuckie3325
Yes, but Morgan is already filling one. So, 5 more to fill.

On a side note, when LSU was previously recruiting Sheldon Jeter, he was a fringe recruit without a lot of interest. However, he blew up his senior year.
Currently visiting Vandy, and will decide between Vandy, Penn State, Wisconsin, South Carolina and Kansas State.
Also moved into the final Rivals 150.
