Talked to him a couple weeks ago, he said scouts are telling him he'll go between 2nd - 7th round.

I really hope he comes to LSU he's a good dude and a hell of a player, but with his family situation, and the sense I got from him it's highly unlikely. Especially if that 2nd - 7th round holds true. Also, heard he has another kid on the way.

JaCoby Jones said he wants to play college ball badly. I'm guessing he is going to have to get a BIG signing bonus to go away from LSU.

Wow 3 catchers in this class and we have 2 committed in the 2011 class as well. A few of them must project to another position.

I've heard he'll be looked at primarily as a pitcher and LSU doesn't value him seriously catcher at all. They have the kid coming in this year (Ross maybe?) and then the kid from Sam Houston the next who look to be their future catchers. Peterson is a great athlete with good stuff off the mound so they hope to make him a solid reliever.

Adam,

How will this affect future classes at LSU and elsewhere in college? See below from SI.

quote:

MLB is bound and determined to include some form of a slotting system for draft bonuses in the next Collective Bargaining Agreement. Those changes, if they can be successfully negotiated with the union, would go into place for the 2012 draft. That would leave 2011 as the last chance to break the bank on bonus money, which means that high picks such as Harper would be under pressure to sign in 2011 before the changes go into effect.

How old is that Weaver? Just asking because is still mentions Harper as being part of next year's draft and there may have been some more definitive movement on that front. Another current issue is the possibility of an international draft.

ETA: after reading it again I guess they could mean high profile players like him and not necessarily him.

It's going to be a positive for LSU. Not going to be something that happens overnight, but the MLB is slowly progressing against the draft a kid in the 18th round and sign him for 2-3rd round money.

A note on on Cecchini from one of PG's scouts on their message board.

quote:

Garin Cecchini from Louisiana is bouncing back slowly and his knee injury is weighing heavy on clubs' minds, but a club will take him and watch him over the summer to see how he bounces back. Where he goes in the draft will probably shock some folks as he probably won't go in the top 3 rounds, but someone will take a flyer on him, gambling that he has a great summer and they can sign him for fair value.
