Is the juco pitcher, Ulloa projected to be a high draft risk ?
Posted on 3/3/23 at 1:40 pm to Toptigerfan86
I doubt it. He’s only thrown 4 innings over 3 appearances this season, but I haven’t been able to find out why. He’s really difficult to get info on.

Jack Frankel Decommitted from MSU
Jay and LSU baseball recruiting follow him

Frankel is a RHP/1B from John Paul II in the Dallas area. So he's teammates with Derrick Mitchell and former teammates with MJ Seo. He's a 2024.

What position is Down being recruited for? P or INF?
Posted on 3/6/23 at 9:36 pm to HtxDr
Way too early to tell on that. He’s a real talent though.
Posted on 3/6/23 at 9:46 pm to ProjectP2294
Played him this past weekend. Talent is there but a lot of INF work to do if it’s for that. He can run it up on the bump though for his age.

New JUCO arm on the radar: Justin Hanson, 6’6” LHP from Pima in Arizona.
I’m only updating the “radar” for juco and later on portal guys because they’re for next season. Similarly, I’ll mention any new 2023 guys we jump in on, if that happens.

I live in Round Rock, but was unfortunately only able to go to Sunday game vs SHSU in RR Classic since umped 6 HS tourney games from that Th - Sat (game I had behind dish that Sat had two pro scouts looking at a lefty throwing mid 90s - one from SF Giants and never found out other one). I started going to games there in 2016 and the gf and I have had the "Fireworks Plan", a mini season ticket plan, to Express games since 2019, so very familiar with ballpark. We sat in section 122 for game and thought I recognized young man sitting 2 rows behind us with his fam whom was also decked out in LSU baseball gear and looked "official", but wasn't 100% sure. Now that I've revisited this board, it was 100% D Mitchell.
He got picked to do a bw inning pushup comp vs a SHSU fan. The SHSU fan did pushups that looked somewhere bw a stationary worm and seizure and ended up winning on count (I'm a former CrossFit comp judge so I would know that majority were no-reps). When he got back to seat I told him "You are the true pushup champ this day" and he and his fam laughed. Seemed like very respectable young man. Looking forward to his arrival to campus.

Are there any pitches sitting at 95-100 we are recruiting right now

Juco infielder on the radar: Tanner Reaves from Blinn

Project is the guy to ask about this. I don’t know.
Project if you’re reading this are we done for the next class minus a few portal guys when that time comes ?

Cam Johnson is in the 94-97 range I believe. I don’t think there’s many HS kids “sitting” 95-100. They may touch it.

I don’t know about the guys sitting 95-100. TBH, I haven’t really looked at their repertoires. But it’s heavy LHP so outside of Johnson, probably not.
And Johnson is going catapult up the draft rankings the next time people update them.
As far as the class being done, we’re still adding JUCO guys to the watchlist. I don’t think we still have any 2023 grads on the watchlist but that could change with coaching changes this off-season. And like you mentioned, the portal will be there to supplement depth or top off the roster. Probably more on the pitching side than anything it you never know.
I want to put together a list of pitchers we looked at in the portal last year but went somewhere else and see how they’re doing. There are a couple at Oklahoma State. There is one at A&M. Sean Sullivan at Wake Forest seems to be doing well.

Good deal. Thanks for the updates you do on this thread!
Do you see this kid as insurance for one of the other current signees or were they looking to add another infielder anyway?

After this season you lose Jordan Thompson, Jack Merrifield and Gavin Dugas plus Gavin Guidry is a draft eligible sophomore.
I think it's just adding to the volume of infielders we will need for playing time and depth.

I'm not trying to answer for Project but I was just about to make a comment along those lines.
We should get Nippolt, Guidry and White back next year and the HS class has some good IF's that should make it to campus.
If Guidry develops like we hope, he should be your SS for next year. If not then you are looking at one of the freshmen to step up, which is a lot to ask. I was thinking another JUCO or portal IF would be a good idea. Guidry is option one for SS next year, but some assurance would be nice.

I think Wes Johnson will attract a lot of portal pitchers
