He needs to rest that fricking knee
Yeah I'd be shocked if he plays much at all this summer. He's invited to Team USA so I'm sure he'd do that first if anything.

Dylan Crews is playing in the planets league

I think the Cape assignment was before the team USA invites came out. He was invited to team USA.
As far as the knee, I don't know how significant the injury is. The way it looked on the field suggested it bothered him a good bit. I would think he would try to get that healthy. Unless he decides to join team USA for the experience and then get the knee fixed up after that.
Edit: The team USA schedule ends on July 15. So it isn't that long. He may go do that if the knee can handle it before taking time off to rest and fix it.

I noticed I had 2 mistakes on my list. I'm also at 61 right now. 38 current roster and 23 recruits. 5 guys on in the portal with no destination announced yet.
Good deal.
I don't think everyone that will hit the portal has hit the portal. I don't really expect anyone in the portal back, but I guess Priester and Drost are possibilities. And still waiting on some sort of clarification on Tripp Haddad.

I don't expect any of them back either. Not sure Tripp's situation either. He was brought in late after Jay was hired if I remember right, so it may just be a redshirt deal and he will be with the team again. Jay must have liked something with him to recruit him last season.

I think Tripp was a preferred walk on type deal. I don't think Jay recruited him heavily. That said, I do think Jay likes him and would keep him at the end of the list of outfielders if he wanted to do that. Our OF is rich, and fairly deep, but it's not overcrowded from a reserve standpoint - a guy that just wants to take the ride, maybe get some run later on down the line. It's just crowded for guys that want to play every day and need to do that now before their time runs out.

Coaching change: Fitzgerald was just hired as Kansas new head coach

I wonder if this affects any of our commits. Specifically thinking about Siravo.

Unlike the last regime, I’m under the impression that all of our current coaches are heavily involved in recruiting.
I’m not trying to say it’s not a loss or anything. Just that CJJ and Kelly seem plenty capable of holding the class together

Definitely. Siravo is just one that seemed like you could tie to him directly being a Texas juco kid.

What position group did Fitzgerald coach?
Sort of makes you wonder about letting Cain leave

I'm assuming Johnson has some replacement in mind. I wonder how long before he names a replacement.

Yeah thankfully we don't have one coach doing 95% of the recruiting anymore.

He didn't do a bad job considering but there are still too many holes in the roster.

He had one good pitching class at LSU. Outside of the Lange class (2014), the only other SP class that was good was the Henry, Marceux, Hill class.
He also failed to get catchers and true team speed on the roster.
We had a couple guys that could run (Watson, Gio, Duplantis to an extent), but there was no consitency.
People love to hyperbolize the size of the players on our roster the last few years of the PM era, but the lack of size, speed, and strength on the roster from 2018-2021 were staggering.

We can agree to disagree, but I don't think it was terrible. His teams made it to at least a super regional in every season except 1. That's not a terrible resume to sit behind.

I'm kind of sort of with you on this. I don't think he did a terrible job considering he didn't get very much help. Also think he left some holes on the roster and had some recent recruiting classes that did not work out.
I think he would have done a pretty good job with the recruiting support of this staff. He wouldn't be relied on so much to find/evaluate/and recruit everyone mostly on his own.
