This is where I think NIL can be effective. Give this Maui guy some incentive to pick the good guys. Somebody call Gordon.

Interested to see how he and Zeb look. Kling is the prize of the OF class but Jay thinks Mic is elite and I’ve heard Zeb can really hit.
The OF class could be a reason he’s already talking about getting Dugas back in the infield

Left Handed Pitchers
I previously said I could see anywhere from 4-6 getting to campus. The biggest change is that Snelling is pretty much a lock to go pro at this point. He's trended up so much that MLB has mentioned him as possibility to be the first HS lefty taken in the draft.
I feel pretty good about the other 5 guys getting to campus. Michael Kennedy would be the biggest draft risk after Snelling, but he seems to be more in the Paxton Kling mold of very on board with getting to school. I wouldn't call him a lock but I feel like it's about 80/20 LSU. Kennedy could be a weekend starter.
Nate Ackenhausen is a bit of a wildcard simply because there is so little journalism done on JUCO baseball. I think he gets to campus and I think he competes for weekend innings.
Herring, Bronzini, and Primeaux I also feel very good about getting to campus. Herring seems like a future weekend starter. Bronzini has been on fire in his HS playoffs. Primeaux is part of a loaded Central staff made up almost exclusively of highly touted lefties.
Cumulative so far: 3 or 4 infielders (counting potential portal guys), 2 catchers, 5 lefties. That's 10 or 11 newcomers.

I like your take on all of those. Ackenhausen is strictly relief pitcher, correct?
Edit: Nevermind, I just went to your link of the pitchers and see Ackenhausen is a starter. Must have gotten him and Applebey mixed up.
Also, to add to your cumulative numbers comment, we have 42 on the roster right now counting Simon and Bollman and not counting Drost, Preister, and Brady who put their names in the portal. Subtracting McManus, Devin, Viet, Hilliard Shaffer, Berry, and Doughty puts the number at 35 before adding any incoming players.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but next season will have the rosters go down to 38, correct?

He's been a starter and a reliever in JUCO. I think he's a guy that could start or be a multi inning reliever for us.
He's also a big strike out guy, so it's possible he's a leverage or late reliever for us based on his stuff.

Yeah, unless the rules change this summer, which is always a possibility.

So you would say you can see him in a role similar to Reyzelman this season. Shut down guy but can go 3 or so innings if you want him to?
Posted on 5/25/22 at 2:31 pm to BayTiger13
It's tough to say because the roles may be different next year.
ETA: If we were looking to piggyback guys similar to the way we've done at times this year, he could be one of the 6 long guys for a weekend. Maybe like Collins.

I wish they gave more context to all of this.

Wonder if it's signability? Something like Kling, telling teams he wants school?
Whatever the reason, if he made it to school that would be unbelievable.

Sometimes they do on their podcasts. Not sure when the next one releases but it’s on my weekly listening schedule.

I thinking the over/under for losing HS players is 6. I think if we lose less than 6 we did really good. Regardless this class is going to be outstanding. If we add impact players in the portal that will be icing on the cake.

I love the position players but catcher and pitchers are going to have the biggest impact on 2023 and beyond. I think our pitching class is awesome but you don't really know until they get to campus. I would not have thought that Dutton would be getting starts and Lansville sitting the bench. So we won't really know what we have until 2023 gets here but almost all of those pitchers could emerge into impact pitchers.

One of my favorite parts of this class is how deep it is. Aiden Moffett isn’t even mentioned and he’s sitting low to mid 90s with a nice breaking ball this year.

I think our pitching staff is going to be fine. We should get help from juco, freshmen, and this year's returnees maturing (Dutton, Taylor, Floyd, Money, etc). I don't think we've even seen some of the best in this year's class yet either (Lansville, Fontenot) and you get Coleman back. I know I didn't name all of the names, but you get the picture - we should be fine. Jay won't be overly active in the portal, but I bet he aims really high.
Catcher should be ok. Contrary to popular belief, I don't think Jay passes up a portal guy that is good on offense and defense, even if not elite in either area. You have to hedge against Milazzo as a 1-way only and coming off an injury, Travinski as a 1-way guy at best, and young, undeveloped kids. Jay has seen how important this spot is.
Infield is interesting. You have some guys coming back that you know are serviceable, talk of Dugas coming back to play IF, a couple of highly regarded (potential incoming freshmen). Again, another position that I think Jay pays particular attention to in the portal for 2-way guys. Thompson may figure it out, but he's a 1 way guy right now. Doughty probably leaves. Dugas hasn't played much IF. The rest are serviceable/unknowns as to how they progress.
Outfield is 1000% fine.

There will be one more expansion, out to 250, in the coming weeks, with updates to show what the buzz is about players up and down the list.
Looks like they might update some write up’s next update.
