Hunt broke down the Brewers slot earlier...thinks at most they could offer $600K
Hunt is the best in the local media on baseball analysis, but I think he is low here if the Brewers really want Noot.
The "slot value" is $125k. If they go over their pool up to 5% (which the Brewers have done in the past, but not always), they can add $350k to that without a single undersign. That puts them at $475k before any savings.
Best case scenario, they do not save anything on their top 3 picks, but that is optimistic as all 3 are college or juco and were picked ahead of their average rankings.
Their third pick - a canadian high schooler - is not ranked anywhere I could find, including the top 600 by prospect live. That pick value is $600k. They could save $200k - $400k on this pick alone. That puts them at $675k to $875k plus any savings on the top 3 picks.
The rest of their draft is 3 college seniors, 2 jucos, and 2 college juniors...none of which mlb ranked in the top 250 draft prospects (didn't look at the others). They should save some money there.
All of that said, I would be very surprised if Noot signed for <$1M. Absolutely no inside knowledge, but I'd guess his number is somewhere between $1.5 and $2M. I do not think the Brewers will get to that, but I think they can get to $1M.

Does anyone know why he didn't get more interest in the draft?

My guess would maybe be velocity. Good thing about him is that he knows how to pitch. Multiple pitches for strikes. Think Jared Poche as a comp except 1-2 mph more on the fastball.

Always one of my favorite LSU pitchers. Did not overpower at all but just knew how to pitch and get outs.

All of that is pretty accurate, but they won't be saving all of that for Noot. All of your numbers would suggest that they would be concentrating all their saving on just Noot. They will have other players some of that money will need to get spent hopefully.

I'm talking more steady velocity. Like Snelling living 94-96 and touching 97-98.
I know Herring hit 94 before but he lives 90-92 when starting I would think.

Maybe, but I don't know that they have any other serious overslot signs past round 10. If Neal is out, nobody else they drafted in rounds 11-20 is close to the prospect that Noot is. Closest is the Mississippi State pitcher, who is ranked 100 to 200+ spots lower than Noot. Also, I thought someone had said he indicated he was going to school.
Trust me, I want Noot as bad as anyone...which is why I'm wasting so much time on the Brewer's draft which I otherwise could not care less about. I still think he comes to LSU, but I think we may have to sweat it out more than people are expecting.

quote:90-92 plays for a lefty. Especially with a guy that has the ability the actually pitch as well as he does. I saw some things listing his frame and age as a reason he wasn’t high on boards. None of it makes sense to me
But he lives 90-92

Honestly, I'm just reaching for a reason to give because I'm not sure why he wasn't higher on boards. That was about all I could come up with. Seems teams are all about 95+ mph or nothing at all coming out of high school.

Good comp. I think Herring will be a good college pitcher.

I'd sign up for another Jared Poche any day of the week. He's the winningest pitcher we've had for a reason. Run support that this lineup should put up with Jay's focus on hitting...good things

To satisfy my own curiosity, I looked at the Brewer's 11+ round guys on prospects live, since they rank the most people (600).
The draftees in rounds 11-15 and 20 are not ranked. Lege (round 16) is ranked 575. Round 18 is Cijntje who is ranked 293.
That leaves Noot and Neal, who are both top 100 prospects in several rankings.

It’s very possible they could get enough to sign him, still think it will be tough. Their VP of scouting even admitted last night it was a shot in the dark and they’ll see what happens. I’m not sure they even think they can.

Yes, and they'll do alot of underslot deals with their top 10 picks. Exactly how much will be left over for Noot and to spread around the scrubs they took in 11-20, I don't know.
Neal's number was probably as high as giraffe pussy. He could be a day 1 guy when he leaves LSU. I think Noot probably had a high number, but it's a little more interesting of a negotiation for him.

Noot has to be interested in leaving otherwise he'd come out and say he's going to LSU now. At the very least, he's still negotiating so that tells me the number can't be far off for him to leave. imo.

Or maybe he doesn't even realize he has to make an official announcement.
Posted on 7/20/22 at 4:00 pm to Adam4848
Or maybe he's going to do a live with a Brewers hat and an LSU hat on the table
Posted on 7/20/22 at 4:12 pm to deuce985
I agree. I believe this one is gonna go down to the wire.

Hope you're right. He'd be a great get for us.
