When did shomari get the boot and why?

Was that for getting in a fight with a cop? Didn't know he ever got booted...

undisclosed character problems. I think Miles put it as "breaking team rules"

would matt allen be starting at guard this year if he hadn't transferred? I think he and zhamal thomas were huge losses.

I don't know but our offensive line has taken huge hits because of the losses.

That's probably true, the only reason why our OL is not so thin is because we've moved guys like Will Blackwell and Joe Barksdale and Lyle Hitt, all former DL, plus Matt Branch former TE looks to have made the switch. So I wouldn't say our OL has taken huge hits, or is thin by any means, but at has maybe been at the expense of our DL (not to say those guys would have made good DL, I think it was a good career move for each.)

We will be thin at DT after this year when Alexander and Woods graduate, IMO. You have Nevis for one more year. Akiem Hicks can be a plug in type guy but he is a big question mark as far as I'm concerned, as JUCO guys usually are boom or bust. Downs will be a stud but needs a RS for weight & strength. Davenport could be a stud, or could be another Al Woods. Just noticed Corley and Lavar Edwards are listed at DT too but that may just be because they didn't have the speed to cut it at DE where they were recruited...

We better go after some serious studs at DT next year because we don't appear to be putting much of an emphasis on it this year.

Oh, definitely, I agree. You're right it's not so much a lack of depth but a lack of experience. The talent is definitely there and I can't wait to watch next year's oline with hitt and black gone.

I believe we lost every single offensive lineman from that class. I remember being really excited about this group. I remember people were REALLY excited about Loadholt and Thomas and moderately excited about Allen.

Loadholt had transfer issues, went to OU.

Zhamal Thomas got caught stealing along with Troy Giddens and got kicked off the team.

Mark Snyder had a career-ending injury in practice.

Matt Allen and Steven Singleton transferred.

One by one they all left. This ended up being one of the most detrimental online recruiting efforts in recent memory, but nobody could have possibly foreseen it.

Just think. If Loadholt had been here, Carnell Stewart never starts. Barksdale wouldn't have started last year. Maybe Thomas plays instead of Hitt. Things would have looked slightly different. Oh well.

I agree Loadholt would have been a huge upgrade over Carnell. But harder to say that Thomas would be starting over Hitt. Loadholt proved it on the field and was a high draft pick (or will be?). Thomas is at Arky now I think, so I guess we'll see what he can do this year. Losing Loadholt was a big hit though, both because he undoubtedly would have started the last two years and Barksdale would be a RS sophomore now instead of a Junior.

Lyle Hitt has really turned himself into a solid OL. He was one of those guys that I thought LSU had no business recruiting, especially as a DL, but he has turned into a quality player. Sort of how I feel about Houston Bates right now, so I hope I am proven wrong on him as well. Just goes to show how hard it is to project where these kids will be 2-3 years after signing.

I like Hitt. And I agree it is possible that Hitt would have won (kept?) the job over Thomas.

Hitt never would have been an offensive lineman if a few of those guys were still on the team. But hell, he has turned into one damn strong college football player.

No, Allen transferred bc he fell behind Dworaczky, T-Bob, and possibly Blackwell as well. Dworaczkyk is going to be a really good player. Allen is much shorter, and not as athletic. He should be solid for TAMU though.

Thomas is much the same, he would have been OK too, but not great. Less athletic and explosive than someone like Blackwell, for example.

Everyone is "woah is us" for some reason all the time about our OL, even though we are loaded with young talented prospects.
