damn if only we would have hired steve instead of big don yanowsky last year

quote:Benton was two years older than Randle and had offers from everybody. Landry didn't have that competition. Randle showed out when given the opportunities as much as anyone could ask. It's not close to a fair comparison.
But when he was an underclassman at Bastrop he didn't have the impact Landry had at 115 or 16 years old. Yes, Bastrop had better players to use...but Benton was the man at Bastrop and easily their best WR back then.
Landry was the best player on the entire field last year as a Soph in most of Lutcher's games

i think we get both sylve and fitte from that school next year.

He was slower as a senior at LSU than he was as a freshman. The bulk hurt his speed. He could fly though.
i think his speed was embellished coming out of HS by coaches/recruiting sites, like hundreds of other players
quote:
early doucet was a man. 215 with 4.4 speed.
he was 6'0 212 at the combine, i doubt he weighed 215 in HS and from watching him he never struck me as a 4.4 speed guy
i dont think anyone realizes how fast 4.4 is.
for a WR, i'd rather have a skillset like Landry than blazing speed.

A smaller receiver without blazing speed is hard/almost impossible to be a 5 star.
obviously...look at Reed
6' WRs that can run are a dime a dozen
I think Landry's skills separate him ...and he has a growing frame...I'm not quick to think he is stuck at 6' with two years left in high school
quote:
I do think he will be in the 50-60 range
I've kept up with these rankings year after year like most on here and I just cannot imagine 50 players better than him that are his age... I think with continued development that you would expect out of him he'll be a Top 25 player. we'll see

best player on the field during last year's 5A championship game ...and that was against the Trio

quote:i hate citing tharinger, but let's take a look at their list:
Tharinger has him as #5 La recruit in '11
quote:it's very possible we grab the top 10, plus 2 or 3 from the others list.
Louisiana Top 10 2011 Prospects To Watch
#1. Jermauria Rasco/DE/Evangel
- A monster off the edge. Had 26 sacks as a sophomore on his way to defensive player of the year. Great athlete that has one of the quickest first steps in prep football. Should be a 5 star candidate.
#2. Kenny Hilliard/RB/Patterson
- Nephew of Dalton Hilliard. Most years would be #1 in state. Will be another 5 star candidate. All-state as a freshman and sophomore. Great vision, agility, cutback ability, and power.
#3. Jarvis Landry/WR/Lutcher
- Amazing top end talent in the state of Louisiana in '11. Another 5 star candidate. Major speed w/ a good feel for the game. Will sit down in the zone or go by you on the edge. Good hands that could improve.
#4. Anthony Johnson/DT/O. Perry Walker
- Good quickness to go with the frame to grow into a premier DT. Has a very high ceiling. Could be the best player on this list when he reaches his potential.
#5. Beau Fitte/LB/South Plaquemines
- Good feel for rushing the passer(19 sacks as a sophomore). Will be a LB in college. Has the speed to go outside and the instincts to be inside.
#6. La'el Collins/OL/Redemptorist
- Great size to go along w/ light feet and a mean streak you like. The best OL prospect in the state for '11.
#7. Chucky Hunter/DT/West Monroe
- HUGE DT prospect that will be a great run stuffer in college.
#8. Bradley Sylve/WR/South Plaquemines
- Speed, speed, and more speed....
#9. Stevie Douglas/QB/Clinton(Home School)
- At 6'5" 175, he has the frame. Also has the huge arm, good accuracy, and an emerging feel for the rush. Doesn't play the needed competition to be higher, but is a potential star prospect. Was MVP at the recent La. NUC camp.
#10. Levander Liggins/ATH/Leesville
- Could be a DB or WR in college. Great speed and leaping ability. High ceiling w/ this athlete.
Others to Watch:
Alonzo Lewis/ATH/St. James
Renaldo Thomas/ATH/Saint Augustine
Jeremy Hill/RB/Redemptorist
Devin Boutte/WR/Catholic
Johnny Banks/ATH/Christian Life
Greg Robinson/OL/Thibodeaux
Ethan Houston/OL/Destrehan
Ellis Carey/DB/Helen Cox
Jerome Sentimore/OL/Destrehan
Cartel Murray/ATH/Thibodaux
Javante Watson/RB/Bastrop
Carl Hart/DB/Broadmoor
also, i'm sure that's darrington's lil brother...bama lock, i'm sure.

as far as the Doucet comparisons, Early's film was some of the best you'll ever see from an athletic stand point.

it's not, you're right ..but when he showed out he didn't dominate upperclassmen like Landry did
no doubt they're both great players

QB in 2011. stevie douglas
I know this guy did well at camps but he scares the hell out of me as a prospect. He plays on a "Home School" team from Clinton. How much competition can that be. My cousin played for Silliman Institute in Clinton and their competition was laughable. A home school teams competition has to be worse. How can we possibaly know how he does under pressure.

yeah. that's why he was rated the #3 overall prospect. probably would have been the best rb on the team if we went that route with him.

JL is just a natural at the position
So is Randle. Look at what he did in the Army practices and games, even though he had a bad hammy. We forget now natural he is IMO bc he didn't play WR last year. But he's natural at just about everything, and that's why he is so good.
quote:
agree on the size part...could hurt him. But his skills are special...they're not good, they're special. ..and I don't think speed will be an issue
I agree. I think he should be a 5*. But that doesn't mean he's better than Rasco and Johnson, if they are as good as advertised. National people like 'worldofx' have them as the early favorites for top DE and DT in the country. If that's the case, they will rank higher.

I do think he will be in the 50-60 range which is nothing to bat an eye at.
He should be better than that. Look at Markeith Ambles. Landry does just about everything better than Ambles.

quote:yeah, he did. Bastrop people were talking about Randle possibly being better than Benton his sophmore year even though he only caught 14 balls (7 for TDs w/ a 31 ypc). Then as a Jr he was the best player on the field every game w/ Mackey a close second. In the state titel game his Jr Randle was so much better than everyone else it wasn't funny.
but when he showed out he didn't dominate upperclassmen like Landry did

more interested in seeing who we go after at QB in 2011. stevie douglas pimps himself up on tigerbait, but i wonder if we have a shot at any of those east coast dudes...williams, lemay, etc.
It seems like there are a ton of bigtime QBs on the East Coast. That kid from SC Worley that Mort pimped from the Manning camp is another one.
LSU should go after all of those guys wholeheartedly. We'll have a possible #1 recruiting class to sell to them.
A season opening shitkicking of UNC also wouldn't hurt.

On the field yes. Off the field, Ambles takes it to a Marbury level.

no crap you need a heavy skill set to play receiver. i was commenting on the fact that someone compared landry to doucet physically and athletically. not comparable.
the two most important things a receiver has to do well is catch and know how to get open. hands and route running. josh reed was one of the slowest receivers i've ever seen and he was unstoppable b/c he knew how to get open and use his body to get in a position to make catches.

Wasn't is 7 for 77 yds? He made it look effortless too.
