This. ALabama puts out about equivalent HS talent as LSU, and there are two FBS schools in that state. Stick to La, Tejas and Florida. Screw recruiting Alabama too hard.

Not really. They are very similar in the number of top recruits.

Credit the Times-Picayune ...

quote:

Louisiana has more players per capita in the NFL than any other state, according to a report by USA Football, the sport's national governing body on youth and amateur levels that puts out an annual study on the subject. According to the study, there is one NFL player for every 55,862 people in Louisiana.

Louisiana has 80 players in the NFL overall, which ties with Georgia for fifth in terms of total numbers. California (205) has the most natives in the NFL, followed by Texas (179), Florida (176) and Ohio (90).

Keep doing what they are doing. LA first with focus then on TX, FL, MS, and a few national recruits like Kiel.

Agree with the majority of the posters. Pound Texas to compliment the abundance of LA talent. Plenty of good kids we can pull from there. Hit GA. They produce so many kids that UGA can't take them all. Other schools pull multiple kids per year from GA. We can too. Hit MS but as always it will be difficult to get them to leave at the end of the day. Hit FL as we always do and pull 1-2 kids to compliment the class. Hit AL as well but be selective.

AL doesn't produce enough kids to put a ton of resources into. They have 2 major SEC programs with top notch recruiting staffs that make it hard to pull those kids. It would be a waste of resources to put too much time their and just lose out on the kids anyway. FSU had good success there for 2 reasons. They are located just below AL in the FL panhandle so the kids are more familiar with them. They have Dameyune Craig. Enough said. That guy is a beast recruiter with infallible ties to the state of AL.

We just need to hire another top notch recruiter that resonates with kids these days. We severely lack top notch, progressive recruiters on our staff. Wilson is the only "star" recruiter on the staff. We need a guy that is his equivalent oos and also that can help with the instate kids. A great recruiter can go anywhere and pull a kid. This is why Orgeron at USC and Tosh L at Cal are elite recruiters. They resonate with kids no matter where they're from. We need a guy like that but they aren't readily available.

With the recruiters we have, we should just focus on Fl and mainly Texas. There is no way we can compete in GA. I understand there is a lot of excess talent but then we would be competing with UA, Auburn, Florida, FSU, and Clemson. Don't waste reasources there.

Just hit Fl, LA, and Texas. And if can't land another good recruiter on the staff just focus on Texas and LA.

Yep, but as far as 5* and 4* recruits, La and Alabama are very similar if you go by Rivals or Scout. There are two FBS programs in that state however. Not logical for any coach at LSU to focus primarily on that state. Tejas, Florida and Georgia are better just based on the sheer number of recruits.

You realize Saban only has 2 of the top 5, 3 of the top 10 instate players committed to Alabama (rivals rankings).

It has been an underwhelming couple of years in the state of Alabama. With likely another #1 class, why should Alabama have landed every top ten guy in-state?

Winston is headed to Florida State for baseball and football. Casher was never coming to Alabama. Shanks didn't turn out to be the talent he was though to be (he wasn't even starting for his own high school by the end of the year). Elston doesn't have a commitable offer from either Alabama or Auburn. McKinzy is a LB and the state was loaded with them in 2012. Thomas went to Georgia Tech to be an option QB. Alexander may still choose Alabama.

You're obviously not familiar with Ron Cooper and his connections and ties to the state of Alabama.

yeah was gonna say, between Brick and Coop, we got Alabama covered. guess we could go get Dameyune Craig to be our WR coach to get Mobile though. "get outta Jimbo's shadow, Dameyune".

The problem with Ms is not talented players. We have plenty of those, it is getting them qualified. Over half of the top 40 players in the state last year ended up in JUCO. That is part of the reason, JUCO ball is so good in Ms. also.

Jimbo was our in to Mobile. You can bet he has poisoned every coach there against CLM.
