Long story short...originally at Breaux Bridge, got expelled for 2 years for having a firearm in his vehicle. Transferred to Teurlings, thinking he could play after he sat out his junior year. LHSAA ruled that you cannot transfer to avoid a suspension so he cannot play football for anyone next year. He's a great kid who got caught in a bad situation. Great kid, close to 4.0 student, tremendous athlete. Good pick up for LSU

wow, that must be a tough situation for him. He must be pretty good for LSU to offer and accept his verbal even with him sitting out for two years, nonetheless good pick-up, seems like a good fit for that LB spot

What kind of weapon did he have in his vehicle? When I was in high school I used to leave my shotgun in my truck cause I was going hunting after school. Guess times are different. 1996 is a long time ago.

Welcome aboard Lamar!
I wonder if he can throw the javelin?

I wasn't his gun. It was a friend's and it was unloaded. Zero Tolerance policy got him. The St. Martin School Board is going to have a vote this week to allow a letter of waiver so he could play this year.

The word is he "might" be able to play ball this year. Not sure where, but it seems as though he will be playing somewhere his senior season.

They didn't do it for Quentin Thomas, so I doubt they will do it for Lamar. Every board member I have talked to basically said it wouldn't pass.

Rumors are he "might" be moving to Texas, but as long as the suspension stands, he cannot play for any LHSAA sanctioned school.

Thomas didn't play for only 1 year.

I'm sorry, but if it was unloaded, not his, and was only in his car, one year is MORE than enough.

I understand no tolerance, but that is just a scapegoat for school districts to be even lazier than they are

If those highlights are from his sophomore year this kid has a very high ceiling. Sophomores are what 16 years old? Man if that is a 16 year old he is gonna be very good.

I'm not disagreeing with you. BB lost a great student when they made this ridiculous ruling. However, he had an opportunity to appeal the ruling and be sent to an alternative school for a couple of months (like Quentin did). Instead, his parents chose to transfer him to Teurlings knowing that there was a possibility of him not being able to play.

Technically, he didn't serve a suspension at all. Whether he got in trouble or not, when you transfer like he did, you have to sit out a year of athletics. So he paid the price for transferring, not for the act of bringing a firearm to school.

I'm not trying to argue, because I see both sides to the argument. Bottom line, the kid is getting shafted regardless of how you spin it.

I hope this young man is able to get his business in order. From what little video there is, there is no doubt this kid is very talented.Even though he did not play this past year, i saw that he was named combine king and strongest player at the Baton Rouge NUC.

I agree that one year would have been sufficient. What Quentin Thomas got in trouble for, in my opinion, was worse than Louis' incident. Character-wise Lamar Louis is a really good kid.
The issue that the school board has in this case is: If Louis transfers to any school in the state to play football, he has to sit out one year based on the transfer rule. So, had this incident never happened and he decides to transfer he sits out anyway. In his case, transferring would not have given him any repercussions for what happened. The school board envoked the max penalty in his case, even if it does seem too harsh.

God forbid they use individual discretion on a case-by-case basis instead of making blanket rulings.

Rumor that was posted on this board was that if his appeal wasn't granted then he'd move to Texas to play this year. The transfer rules there aren't strict like they are in LA.

All three SM parish schools have tried to get athletes' suspensions reduced by having the school board grant them a waiver. The precedent has been set years ago when the first school tried it and failed. The school board is a stubborn group and they will not let him "run away from his suspension" (their words, not mine).

I totally agree that they can be stubborn, but I see their side as well. They aren't going to let the kid try to avoid punishment by transferring. It's like a slap in the face to them. I don't think he deserved two years in the first place. Then again, I don't want to see him playing for Teurlings next year either!
