yes, he will be their only qb on the roster worth a damn

So then that means Kizer will only have 1 season as a starter and no redshirt season. Thats the minimum playing time really unless he somehow passes up Zaire.

he can redshirt so really he would have 2 years. but its less of a gamble than coming to lsu who has jennings and rettig

This must be a fake rumor that BOL created because they were mad Kizer cancelled his visit to Tuscaloosa.

Interesting that ND has taken the top duel threat QB out of Ohio the last two classes.

Do we have a backup plan for Harris? A month ago it looked like we could possibly take 2, and now it's Harris or...?

Haven't you read the board the past 2 days? LSU fans don't want unknowns/under the radar prospects. We only sign 5* players and frick 5* hoes son

Having Jennings and Rettig will give him that time to develop.

Zaire is currently 3rd team. He might get some PT, but its far from certain. Also golson will be back in 2014

He can redshirt but their QB talent is so thin that it might not be in their best interest because if Rees goes down there isn't another guy on the roster unless Hendrix is better than we think although the fact that Golson started over him leads me to believe he isn't anything special and Kelly values the ability to run. Zaire might have a shot to start considering his playing style is so similar to Golson and the offensive could just run in the same way as last year.

Jeremy Johnson will have a year over Harris in Malzahn's system. If anything it's better to compete against players in the same class.

But we have Jennings and Rettig

I know its bleacher report....but....

Beneath Rees on the current depth chart is Andrew Hendrix, a former 4-Star prospect from Cincinnati, who has been a "bust" of sorts during his collegiate career. Accuracy, pocket presence and confidence are three red flags surrounding Hendrix, which are likely enough to cast him out of the discussion.

Remember, there's a reason Hendrix sank beneath both Rees and Golson on the depth chart during last fall camp.

That leaves with Notre Dame with its final option—Malik Zaire, a true freshman who enrolled for the spring semester and participated in spring practices.

There are two schools of thought surrounding the possibility of Zaire being crowned as the Irish's starter.

The first is that Zaire must redshirt as a freshman. Some will say despite the fact he enrolled early, his inexperience will only hinder the offense, and that he would be better suited learning through mental reps on the sideline.

The second belief is that because Zaire possesses such breathtaking talent, he would be a suitable replacement for Golson.

With the way Kelly has constructed his offense, mobility at the quarterback position is essential, particularly in the zone-read scheme he employs. With Zaire having been pegged as the "future" of the program, doesn't it make sense to get him the experience he needs in the absence of Golson?
