I guess I was more curious after hearing all the stuff with regard to Luther Davis and his parents getting a hard time which I personally don't know how much is true or not true).

I was in West Monroe when LD graduated..watched him play his high school ball near my house...I can tell you that LSU fans were very upset, not so much that he went to Bama, but that he lied about his visit there...

I'm sure his parents did get some flack, but not nearly to the extent that he reported.....I actually read the articles concerning that in both the alabama and louisiana newspapers...they both told shockingly different stories....

FWIW...I am now living in MS and recently read some quotes by Chris Garrett's dad that he was catching a ton of flack for Chris leaving MS and going to LSU....

If you don't think it upsets Al fans to lose a Bama recruit as much as it upsets LSU fans to lose a La recruit then you must be very naive. This is a ridiculous thread.

Your entitled to think it is ridiculous, and I am sorry for those that took me it out of context...I never said what Luther said was true. I have no freaking idea. I have never spoken to the guy. There are always stories (some true, some not true, most are usually half truths at best) I do know the family of JeMarcus, and I asked about him many times, but I never gave them a hard time about his choice to go to LSU, and yes as I said...I didn't like it, and it ticked me off to lose a good one....but hey, he ended up the #1 Draft pick in the NFL...no one can argue that it worked out best for him...he couldn't have gone any higher going to AL so it ended up a great choice for him and his family. I don't live in Louisiana so I don't know what it is like for all recruits that go out of state; I just asked a question if you guys got more upset about a player that you want leaving out of state to any college, Alabama, or was it Saban being a factor. I said I didn't know if there was any truth to the Luther scenario in my comments, but all some of you read was Luther this or Luther that. He was just an example as I never heard of any issue like the one (again, probably not true) with Luther prior to CNS coming to AL...I was just wondering....sorry you thought the thread was ridiculous..you shouldn't have responded. Hope your day gets better!

Its mostly any school, its just strangely funny and frustrating how many kids in LA are now highly recruited and favor both LSU and Bama. But you cant blame Saban. He knows the area, and he knows that LSU has no natural instate rivals, so he can come in and take some of the kids that just miss an LSU offer. Also, I think a small part of the reason that Saban comes after top LA guys is that he wants to give LSU a run on some of these kids, and make our coaches work harder on our in state kids so we cant spend as much time and resources recruiting the same kids Bama does in areas like Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, etc. Not to say our coaches have not done a good job recruiting those areas, but who knows who else we might have had a chance at if we didnt have to focus so hard on keeping kids like RR, Tolliver, Clement, Mingo, etc in Louisiana.

I actually think this probably makes more sense then anything I have heard. I really never thought of it that way.

Did it bother Bama fans when we got JaMarcus Russell?
BTW We'll trade J Russell for Luther Davis every day of the week.

It works in reverse, too. LSU continuing to recruit Richardson, Fluker and Dubose forces Bama and Florida to play defense.

Despite the certainty of it, I suspect at least 20 schools still actively pursue Russell Shepard, and probably 2 or 3 of those do so aggressively.

ETA: I failed my own "/thread".

Agreed. Living up north, it is just easy to see why Louisiana (born there....spend 20 years there) has so many good recruits. Kids here barely talk about football. They are excellent in a lot of sports...not going to lie. Runners...none better. Skiiers too. But, these kids just aren't taught to "hit". They shy away from contact in any way whatsoever. General statement with exceptions sure. But Louisiana high school football kids are just tougher. There, I said it. Even the kids who don't play football in Louisiana are generally a LOT more tough than kids out here. Inane toughness doesn't make you a great footbally player, but it sure doesn't hurt.

Ever fan in every state gets a little upset. LSU is too much into the Saban thing at Bama....and still upset that he left LSU.

Do LSU fans get upset when any player in the state thinks about playing for a school out of state that LSU wants or just the ones that LSU wants that think about going to Alabama? Just curious. I wasn't sure if it was a LSU thing for any school, an Alabama thing, or a Saban thing? I know we all want the home state guys to go to the state school, but generally I wish all of them the best regardless of the school they choose.

Why don't you you ask that question over on the Alabama Board. That way you will get the answer to all of the College football Fans.

Its losing the elite prospects that gets people upset. With a small state, you don't have those prospects every year. This year there are 2 Rivals top 20 players from La (Randle and Jackson) last year the top national ranked La player was in the 60's or 70's. Its funny how times change too, with Kevin Faulk in the mid 90's, people expected him to leave and were happy when he stayed, now people expect Randle to stay and will get pissed if he leaves.
People also remember the bad years. Historically when LSU had been good, we had most of the top players from La, though we'd still lose some. In the early 90's it seem like none of the top prospects stayed in state. Gery Dinardo started to change that, though we still lost out on some prospects (Ed Reed, Reggie Wayne). The guy that really locked down the state was Saban, (Miles had continued that) but that is why people get really anxious about players going to Alabama.

We'd get just as upset if they spurned us to join a monastery FWIW.
