When he decommited from bama, didn’t he reach out to lsu first before choosing Ohio state because we told him no thanks after Underwood committed? Could see him being a target in the portal after we pony up though Ohio state won’t be outbid if he is worth keeping.

Yes and our 100 million dollar man told him no because he had promoted an undeserving QB coach to be our OC to bring in a 17 year old

He’s going to be the starter next year at OSU.

I remember that being the rumor and thinking it might come back to haunt us. I can’t imagine ever turning down a 5-star QB under any circumstance. Bird in the hand theory. Of course hindsight is 20-20, and Underwood seemed all-LSU. Still, if Underwood got his feelings hurt and bolted… well, you still have Sayin. Now you’re buck arse naked, especially if Nussmeier gets a 1st round grade and leaves. Even if Nuss stays, you’ve got to find his eventual replacement.

Remember when Matt Flynn stuck with LSU even though we had Russell coming in? Yeah, they don’t make many kids like that anymore.

There was no NIL for Flynn, there are no more Nuss, he could’ve gotten mad money from a number of Schools. Look the Underwood flip was surprising and devastating to all. It’s hard to fault anyone when you have 2 Billionaires and Tom Brady on speed dial to reel in a 17yr old. We’ve got 3 or 4 27kids in La that’ll be ranked as top 10 QBs in the country. From all I’ve watched and seen Haven seems to be a Great QB and Super Kid. Despite BU’s character and word whom fooled us ALL, Haven is right here in our backyard. Start paying him now— CBK has to get sketchy- if a Drunk obnoxious Sports sight owner can pay for play for BU and get away with it, you can’t tell me there’s not a Wealthy LSU booster who won’t do the same- All wealthy people have lots of money but also possess lots of EGO

Then go get Tavien St Clair. Problem is neither will be available until 26 if Sayin believes he will be. No spring portal anymore. Ask, if no then move on. Have to get someone who fits whatever system we want to run.

Rivals has had Tavien above BU as #1 QB most of the year. I would also like to grab D'ville QB from Bama, and maybe Durham could assist?

Durham is always listed as being from Oklahoma City. How long was he even in Duncanville?

Correct. My point is in relation to the thought process that not taking Sayin may have been (likely was) for fear doing so might push Underwood elsewhere.

Although there was no NIL in ‘03(?) Flynn surely could have gone lots of places where he didn’t have a Jamarcus Russell coming in in his same class. (See Robert Lane.)

All that to say there aren’t many kids confident or patient enough to compete, and to give Flynn props for competing and sticking to the plan. It worked out well for him!
