We have plenty of Edge help coming. This sucks but it’s not a massive position of need. If this was Womack I would agree but Mickens is not Womack.

Mickens has been expected. We have other good edge guys. I believe his dad passed away and Columbus is much closer.

Pretty much, Mickens is a top 150 player overall, so it doesn’t help but LSU is making waves nonetheless and will be fine going forward. Best of luck to Mickens as well

LSU has always been hit or miss with guys that far away from Louisiana.

Jack Marrucci and his team have given Kelly and staff the breakdown of where they need to focus their recruiting efforts (largely Louisiana and Houston area) because that is where the majority of hits have come from since 2000.

I think this staff coming in has relied on their previous ties and relationships with national recruits (especially Cain), but I suspect that will shift a bit moving forward.

I find the GA pipeline interesting in that regard.

Honestly would like to hear more about this. Cool analytics and what goes on behind the scenes of recruiting and how they decide on who to go after

If you don't mind coming off $9 a month for LSU Gold there is a Jack Marrucci series where he talks about this stuff. Very interesting.

If I recall the statement correctly, one tidbit was that LA 3 stars (on average) have actually outperformed out of state 4-5 stars (on average) based on their research.

I wholeheartedly believe this, lots of LA 3* have panned out very well @ LSU & elsewhere

Marucci mentioned that LSU has signed like 535 players since 2000, and I think around 170 or so didn't make it (quit or transferred out). That comes out to about 30-31%.

He said the only one of that 170 group that made a 2nd contract in the NFL (his gold standard of a football player) was Lavelle Hawkins WR from California that transferred out of LSU back to Cal.

Jack has been able to create a "character metric" that has proven to be correlated to the 4 championship teams he has been a part of in his career (FSU 1 & LSU 3).

Jack stated that people have different levels of grit and resiliency in certain states/areas. He said Baton Rouge is ranked #1 for this blue collar work ethic trait amongst mid size cities across the US. Pittsburgh is #1 amongst large cities. He said both Thibodeaux/Houma and Lafayette score very high on this rating for smaller cities.

Went from a thing in 2019, to an absolute shite show with the recruiting classes thereafter

I do think his location points are very useful though. I do think they’ve re-commited to the region after kinda starting slow there
