has committed to SMU over offers from Stanford, Kentucky, Nebraska, Ole Miss...Scout has him ranked as the 2nd best Center prospect. Good pickup for the Ponies.

hes a good kid and will do well for SMU... If SMU can can claw back to respectability than they could do some damage. Dallas is chalk full of talent.
But lets be honest they still have too many teams to compete with in dallas right now...

Academics matter to some kids! More to college than football. You appear to be the immature idiot.

He wanted to go to a school with good academics so his final 3 were Stanford, Tulane & SMU. He wanted to stay close to home, but at least get out of New Orleans. Therefore, he chose SMU. It's not always about choosing the biggest known school all the time. Garret Wibel or Doug Planchard probably would've been 4 year starters at Tulane or Louisiana Tech, yet they rode the bench for all their years at LSU. Fontana probably wants to play early also, but academics were his biggest factor.

SMU over Stanford and TULANE:
Times-Picayune: SMU edges Tulane for Brother Martin's Fontana
"On Friday night he huddled with his parents Dwight and Melanie at their Mandeville home, held one final discussion on the pros and cons of each school and then pulled the trigger on a verbal commitment to Southern Methodist. Tulane and Stanford were Fontana's other finalists."
It's too bad - I was hoping Toledo's rising '09 commit list would include Fontana.
Who knows, maybe he'll change his mind. That said, it's been a while since Tulane has taken away a notable recruit from another program (especially from another CUSA member).
