This kid is certainly a great pick up but I too doubt he will ever play at LSU. (though it's great to get commitments from the top prospects regardless)

I'm confused about why it is good for us to get commitments from kids who will forego college and enter the draft. When he signs with MLB, won't that just leave a hole that we could have filled with a quality college player? Isn't this a move from the Smoke Laval recruiting playbook?

Somebody needs to set me straight, because I don't understand this.

Coach PM said he likes to take a chance on a couple of highly rated pitchers a year, because thats the only way you will land the Ranaudo type of pitchers. The difference when Smoke was coach, was he recruited wayyyyy to many of these chance type prospects.

Exactly. PM seems to keep the risks to a minimum, but you do want to take some risks. While taking commitments from too many "risk" prospects is clearly a bad thing, my point was simply that it's always good publicity to get a commitment from one of the top prospects in the country, especially a class of 2011 prospect this early.

Cave just helped his travel team win a 16U championship and to commit right after that just gives the story even greater impact and shows other recruits LSU is the place to be. (I know it's where my son wants to play, but then again, my son has wanted to play at LSU even before he ever picked up a ball!!)
