I'm confused about why it is good for us to get commitments from kids who will forego college and enter the draft. When he signs with MLB, won't that just leave a hole that we could have filled with a quality college player? Isn't this a move from the Smoke Laval recruiting playbook?
Somebody needs to set me straight, because I don't understand this.

Exactly. PM seems to keep the risks to a minimum, but you do want to take some risks. While taking commitments from too many "risk" prospects is clearly a bad thing, my point was simply that it's always good publicity to get a commitment from one of the top prospects in the country, especially a class of 2011 prospect this early.
Cave just helped his travel team win a 16U championship and to commit right after that just gives the story even greater impact and shows other recruits LSU is the place to be. (I know it's where my son wants to play, but then again, my son has wanted to play at LSU even before he ever picked up a ball!!)
