If NCAA rules did not require transfers to sit out/lose a year if they go to another D-I, seems like the oversigning/cutting players issue would not nearly look as sleazy on the part of schools & coaches.

That's also a good point. I'd be for losing that also. If you're getting a scholarship from a school, you should be able to play immediately. Not only is it unfair to the student that transfers, but it's unfair to the school, having to pay for a year of school for nothing in return.

I would agree with this ONLY if the coach releases him. I can see all kinds of dirty trading going on, teams left out to dry because Joe the qb wants to play at florida now instead of tennessee for "whatever reason".

If he goes out of conference that might be better. It's the same thing with coaches, they sign contracts to guarantee they will be there the next year unless released or bought out.

Scholarship is no different, it's a contract

Scholarships are year-to-year and these are adult decisions largely made by adults (parents).

I don't have a real problem with it because kids leave early and transfer all the time.

If you go to a team known for this (Bama) don't be shocked to see the dead wood trimmed.

Phelon Jones, etc.

In Phe's case it was his decision to leave based on wanting to be back in bama and playing time. This gives kids the opportunity, especially oos kids, to leave the school if they feel it necessary to better their lives and career.
