Is NIL really going to be that big of a deal moving forward?

Just seems like A&M is setting the tone on how this can backfire, giving 18 year old kids boatloads of money before they even step foot on the field.

I know they’ve got a lot of rich boosters but rich guys don’t get rich by pissing their money away at 18 year olds just to have them not pan out.

I was worried about LSU, as LSU doesn’t have the money to compete with places like UT and Texas, but it’s looking more and more like we’ll finish with a top 3 class.

I think moving forward what you will see is the NIL is another factor among many. Granted it is a huge factor, but its not the end all be all.

If you look at it like that, the biggest factors are playing time, culture, facilities, and NIL.

I may be forgetting some, but my point is, if a school like LSU can compete at a high level with their culture, which includes things like winning tradition, the atmosphere both in Tiger stadium and in their day to day lives that is fostered by the coaching and support staff, if the opportunity for playing time is there, if our facilities remain in the top 10 around the country, and if we are at least competitive in the NIL arena, then I think we can go head to head with any school in the country, including Bama.

I know that was a lot of "ifs" but we check all those boxes. There aren't many other schools that can. The kids that are only looking at the school that offers them the most money, well I'd consider that kid is doing us a favor by weeding himself out.

We probably won't be able to get into bidding wars over kids that are looking for the top dollar. We will end up with players that are more dedicated to improving themselves, more dedicated to the school, and more dedicated to winning.

In that light, our inability to just throw money around like A&M becomes an advantage over those schools that are trying to go the route of spending the most money.

Its not going to be as big of a deal as everyone is making it. It will change and sway some recruits, but the effects will reach an equilibrium. I think once methods like ATM get exposed and burned a couple of times, teams will get more reasonable about it and use it as a selling point, but it will not make or break schools like LSU.

Yeah, seems like a good angle would be, hey you can go to Bama where they’re loaded with 5 stars or you could come here and once you’re in the NFL that little NIL contract isn’t going to mean shite. I just wonder if the kids will have the foresight to realize that, many of these dudes are from poverty stricken families. I trust BK to play the right angles. We went from having a WR playing QB (well, we’re still kind of doing that) to #4 in recruiting for frick’s sake.

There will never be a shortage of rich boosters looking for an edge and bragging rights.

It needs regulation. Or the free market needs to adjust. I know if I was a booster shelling out big bucks I would want a guarantee that said player stays. Those NIL contracts will soon have clauses forcing the athletes to forfeit the cash and/or come with balloon payments at the end of the athlete's 3 or 4 year contract term.

The NCAA also needs to reign in some of their recent changes. Some ideas: limit players to one transfer during their career; implement a transfer period/deadline per season.
