If Coach gets the best players from Louisiana, he may not go to the Final Four, but he sure will win a lot of games, and they will be fun to watch.

If LSU can consistently get most of the top 3 players in the state each year, that is enough IMO. We've been letting the top Louisiana players leave for years now. We all know how big a difference one player can have on a basketball program.
That hasn't been an option over the years. The talent level from this year and over the next couple of years will be a big improvement from the last few years. Another issue is that LSU has not signed the top players or any players for that matter who come from NOLA. Malik Morgan will be the first in some time with Tim Bush being the last (who transferred to Baylor). Its not simple as saying signing the top 3 guys in the state will help out. The talent overall is not there consistently. What happens when the top 3 guys are redundant to what is already on the roster? Or if the top 3 guys are all 6-3 wing players? LSU of recent memory has went as far as Baton Rouge area players take them. That has to change.

Ludwig and Derenbecker are from New Orleans and were the top players from there that year.

I forgot about them. I should have clarified as good players/elite. When comparing those guys to Greg Monroe/Augustin/Hollis Price and others its not even close. My point is that the talent evaluation has to get better for LSU basketball. While I don't know of any possible connections, but how did VCU and ultimately Washington recruit a big man (Jernard Jarreau) away from the state? Not saying he is great or elite. He may turn out to be nothing special. But they saw something in him. When was the last time a underrated/under the radar player signed with LSU that panned out? Jarreau would have been the perfect player to sign this year with 5 schollies to give out.

So tell me why Tyrus didnt get a scholly til his second year at LSU? please correct me if im wrong, but who paid for his school if he wasnt on scholly? Im not sure how that works in bball.

He was on scholarship the entire time. He redshirted as a freshman due to injury.
Scholarships work the same in basketball as they do in football.

I don't know the story with Jarrreau. LSU could use him now.
LSU has only signed about 5 players from New Orleans in 25 years. Derenbecker, Ludwig, Morgan are three of them.

Either way, there was no scholatship for TT when he committed to LSU. How many 1ST round talent players are going to committ to a school not knowing when a scholly will be available? Thats why i say a TT doesnt happen everyday.
quote:This is from scout.. it's not like we had him locked up the whole time. what would have happened if that player didnt get kicked off the team? OR did he know that a player was getting kicked off and a scholly would open up for him? Just seems like a lot of pieces had to fall into place for us to land TT.
“Actually, I really and truly was concentrating on the season and putting all the recruiting on the side. I narrowed it down to LSU and Miami. I made my decision about a month and a half ago when I heard there was a possibility that the Miami coach was going to get fired. Once he did, I committed to LSU like three weeks ago.”

He was a late bloomer that didn't get offered until the spring. He was not highly recruited. LSU offered him when a scholarship came available. He knew upon committing that he had a scholarship. He redshirted and continued to grow and improve.

Tyrus was walking on to the basketball team at LSU and was going to be on scholarship the next year. He wasnt being recruited by LSU as a scholarship player but once Spencer Ford got kicked out of a JUCO it was the last minute so they gave the scholarship to Tyrus, If Spencer Ford had come to LSU tyrus would not have touched the floor until his junior year. #Fact

The fact is you have no clue. ULL thought they had him in the bag and LSU signed him. I know for a fact that during his redshirt year LSU coaches were drooling over him because of how he was performing in practice. His performance on the court was no surprsise to those in the program.

Louisiana is not just New Orleans or Baton Rouge. Yea, you got Morgan, but most services have Morgan as about the number 4 player in the state...After seeing him with my own eyes I know Qualls at Huntington and Josh Gray are better than he is. Derenbecker, Ludwig and Issac just were not that good and when you saw them play, you saw it. I heard all the hype about Derenbecker in 2010 and when I finally saw him at the Top 28, I figured out why he scored so much, he was just a big point guard playing in a class where he towered over everybody. Point blank, the state has gamers and LSU needs proven winners and gamers, not just potential, which is all those rankings are.
If LSU could have just gotten Morgan, Qualls, Benjiman, Gray, Felix, or Wagner and a scoring post player, that team would compete in the SEC in 2013, maybe not win it with where Kentucky is right now but definitely compete with them and be on the level of a Florida. I'm sorry but if I'm a 4 or 5 star player outside of Louisiana, there is nothing attractive about LSU basketball right now. Jones isn't proven there yet, there is practically no support, just criticism and you're always gonna be in the shadow of the football program. You've got to make LSU a destination for instate kids before you can for out of state ones, period, its a process.

i really wanted qualls to get an offer

I don't know what rankings websites you read. I've never seen Morgan below 3rd in the state, and he's 2nd on virtually every site I've seen, including Rivals.
I've seen Morgan play, and I've seen Qualls play many times. Morgan is just as athletic as Qualls, but can shoot. Qualls has no outside shot. He is basically the same player as John Isaac.
Your list of players basically consists of 5 guards, including 3 point guards.
I do agree with your point of recruiting Louisiana better, but you can't just recruit the state without regard to positions.

Yea, he's not 6'5 that kid is a good 6'6, at least by now. He was easily taller than Troy when we played them in the 3rd round, and he can jump out of the gym, has a sweet jumper, I don't understand why he didn't get one.
