I’m genuinely curious, but why would this be the case? Stingley looks like what you would build in a lab to play CB. Height, at some point, just becomes a disadvantage. It’s why there are very few people who can play certain positions once they get a certain height.

Stingley was as close to a perfect prospect as you can get. To say any prospect is clearly better than him is unrealistic.
Prototype size does not mean ideal size. Certainly, there is a bell curve for the heights of elite football players for each position. But the fact that most players are a particular height for a particular position does not mean that the prototype height is the ideal height.

If a player can meet the parameters for elite play but can do it at a greater height, particularly at CB, that greater height will allow that player to play at a higher level.

In short, while it's difficult for taller players to have elite speed, quickness, body control, and flexibility, if a player has elite speed, quickness, body control, and flexibility and has an additional 4" in height, that player will be a better CB, even if they don't have prototype height.

Stingley was heads above any other freshman DB that ever stepped on LSU’s campus when I came to technique

Stingley had elite technique and athleticism coming in. Pickett has elite length and more upside but is going to need to put on some weight before he is ready for the SEC. Hes pretty lanky right now.

Pickett is an elite recruit and a rare athlete. He’s an absolutely huge addition to the team. Having said that, Stingley’s technique, instincts, and ball skills were more than elite. It doesn’t get any better. Stingley was also extremely physical. He was a great tackler. He was the best corner on a national championship team as a true freshman. I doubt we’ll ever have a freshman make that kind of impact at corner ever again. In my opinion, he was that good. He was drafted 3rd overall on the strength of his freshman season and is now one of the best corners in the NFL. Pickett has all the physical tools, but I doubt he is as far along as Stingley.

To be honest, Pickett is kind of a unicorn imo. Off the charts measurables and would be the top ranked CB, S, or WR in the class.

Stingley was similar to prime. Ricks supported the argument. Pickett has to sign before comparisons.

Pickett is a day 1 starting CB.
And Anding will push the returning CBs sooner rather than later.
