I coached High School Baseball and Football for 30 years, Recently retired. I have had many kids sign with colleges in both sports. There has been some good advice here by others. When I had athletes and parents contact me about college I always started with the same sentence. You want to go to a place that you have the best chance of getting on the field, Period. Big colleges bring in top recruits every year, just being able to sign at a big college does not do anything for your playing time. The competition is hard and it gets harder every year. Does not mean you can not do it just something to think about. The transfer portal is a little deceiving, Only a small % of the players who go into the transfer portal improve the situation they were in, in fact many go into the transfer portal and never play ball again.

My second part is this. My son is a baseball guy, he is a senior this year. We went after some bigger schools since he was a Jr, not a lot of movement. He finally got a 55% offer from a NAIA school. This was several weeks ago. He has now been contacted by multiple schools about having a face to face with them. Been crazy, He has even been contacted by some D1 schools, nothing major but still. Every college sends out letters to athletes but when a coach calls or sends a text asking for you to come to a face to face, you are cooking with grease. So as others have said fight hard for that offer even if it is a Podunk University. It may lead to something bigger. To be honest I like the NAIA offer he got. Great environment, great academics, no too far from home. But it is his choice. Good Luck..
