Saw he signed with Texas today for baseball. Did LSU not recruit him?

I think they evaluated him. Had multiple opportunities to lock him down if they wanted to. He was originally committed to Mississippi State and then was uncommitted for a while before committing to Texas. It doesn't seem like we went beyond the evaluation stage.
The knock is that he can't find the strike zone. Big arm, but no control or command.

I think reliever vs starter played a role too, in so far as projections go

There are some reliever risk attributes that wouldn't scare me off but some others that would.
If the issue is a violent delivery or the potential that he wouldn't hold his velo, that doesn't really scare me (outside of the injury risk with a violent delivery).
If the issue is that they don't think he moves well enough and it could impact his ability to make adjustments of add more pitches, that would be a no go for me.
From there you get into the NIL aspects and the kid's expectations. If he views himself (and prices himself) as a starter, and your evals show the reliever risk is too high, then you pass.
None of this is to say that just because he's not going to LSU he's not going to be really good. Just trying to think out loud on some of the aspects of the evaluation. And all of the things I just laid out could have nothing to do with this specific situation. I just enjoy these thought exercises.

You are an agent
No doubt in my mind
I almost spelled much of your reply out, but knew I was wasting my time. LOL
Esp the velo and NIL stuff

The kid gets off the bus throwing 94-96. He’s 17. Main issue is problems at catcher. He throws a hard breaking ball that always gets to the back stop. If you know what I mean.

Great kid. Cain was the deciding factor.

I have a gut feeling LSU will be alright lol. If they wanted him he’d be in BR

This is not true.

quote:my kid has played against him a few times, he can bring it, comes straight downhill if I remember. Ball was kinda flat and lived up in zone from what I recalled. At 92-94 it was plenty plenty good enough against 95% of HS kids

Don’t remember off speed that much.
