re: Harold Joiner vs Derrick Henry

Well, that's the reason Henry ran for so many yards in HS because he was a man at 6'3" 240 bowling over kids. And some people are getting me wrong again, the Alabama fan (What is a Alabama fan doing here anyways? Defending Henry of course-Lmao) saying Henry is fast in pads outrunning DB's. Yes, it's easy to do when you're already 20 yards down field as I said. You're, right that particular Bama OLine was nothing special, but they still opened big holes for him to roll through and use his physical nature and speed to do the rest. Dude was 6'3" 240+ when he was at Bama, it's hard as hell to bring down a load like that in the open field once they get going, I know I been there in college. The only person I saw that would knock the crap out of Henry was the former A&M safety (I forget his name), dude would just fly up when Henry had the ball and unload on him.
And no one is saying Joiner is explosive, I just said he had more wiggle to his run than Henry who is all lumbering power. As some people on here have said, Joiner may not even play RB in college. He certainly won't dominate like his ego thinks he will, not with CEH there, and maybe a special trio coming in behind him in Davis, Emery, and Cain.

Just remember we are talking about 10th's of a second like 4.4 vs 4.5 vs 4.6 vs 4.7. Most people forget about one small factor. No matter your 40 time as a RB whether it be 4.4 - 4.7, a big factor is how fast you get up to full speed, how strong you are running between the tackles and also how quick you to make lateral moves. Some of the best running backs their speed had not all to do with their success, it was their ability to run behind a good O-Line and TE/WR blocking schemes....

Yeah, and regardless of what Joiner's 40 time is, bringing in a 6'3 230 pound kid that can move will only help our team. You will find a place for him to contribute if not at RB. Plus getting the number one player out of AL will be sweet.
I'm all for us bringing him on and I hope he comes to Baton Rouge

quote:Yep, and roughly average for a LB. (per glancing at NFL combine stats)
as shown by a 4.70 40... That is horrible for a RB

Not really. RB don't have to be fast. Jeremy Hill probably ran at best a 4.6 40. Plus the guy is 6-3 215

Say what you want about his film, but apparently people were drooling over him at The Opening and he impressed a lot of people.

He is an athlete No doubt, I just don't know if he is an SEC running back. For his size he doesn't run downhill or with a lot of power. There are several things about his film that concern me. He doesn't continue to drive his legs at the point of contact. He has a lot of 1 on 1 tackles in open space and is brought down easily by initial/ incidental contact. There are also not a lot of signs of him moving people to gain extra yardage. These are all factors that current and recent LSU running backs have used to be successful.
IMO I see him as a stop gap running back for 2018 for when Guice and Williams leave. If LSU has the great RB haul it is expected to get in 2019, I definitely see him moving and taking on a more athletic role (H or slot).

IMO he is explosive but lacks top end or long speed. I think he's quick enough to beat LBs to the edge. It's really evident in the camp vids he's in. Also his combine numbers kinda back that up too, he has the 4.7 forty but his vertical is around 38" and there are numerous vids of him doing standing backflips.

I wouldn't want him as a LB either if he is not physical at all.
