Na, this was about Carneal Ainsworth. Not Hardrick.

Well what's the f'ing deal with Ainsworth? Everytime I've asked about him nobody has any idea. Is the kid just giving up football or is he planning on going somewhere to play next year or what?
This is about the only inside information that I have regarding LSU football. Don't expect Ainsworth to play football any more. He simply likes attending LSU as a student more than as a football player. I believe that I was told that the demands to be a student and football player were more than he expected. He realized that he would not see much playing time at LSU and would rather play golf and chase coeds instead. I believe this as a reason more than to grieve over the loss of his grandfather which I believe had become the accepted reason.

So do we get a schollie back for that or no?

He never counted against the 85.

So we never used one him is what you are saying? So does that mean we still had one spot open? elaborate for me please.
we had 24 rt? depending on hicks, and def not ainsworth does that mean we have 2 more then we would have had? or does it mean those spots were just wasted?

The staff was intending to use one on him as of National Signing Day, but since he wasn't on the team at the start of the season, he never counted towards 85. I think we actually had a couple of spots open with Molton transferring, Ainsworth leaving the team, and Sidell Corley transferring as well. In that case, a walk-on gets the extra scholarship(s). The same happens in basketball, with 13 scholarships.
In 2008, we had 83 scholarship players, and I believe the two extra spots went to Ace Foyil and Brady Dalfrey.

so basically we are at the number we thought we would be at.

Basically every program will be at the 85 level because they will give the extras to walk-ons who deserve a spot, before the first game. I suppose if a coach is a real dickhead, he might not do that though.
However, before scholarships were given to walk-ons, I believe we had 83 in 2008 and 83 or 84 in 2009.

and more then likely that will be where we are at again? I guess it is good on les' part to not extend a schollie to a reach and give it to someone who has been here a while even if they never see the field. I just see on here people talking about we need to make room for 2011, seems like we have room every year.

People always assume we will sign more guys than we actually do. They also assume that we will lose less guys than we actually do, hence the questions about making the numbers work.
I haven't bothered with the calculations for this year, but I think we have 84 scholarship guys and 17 seniors=67 players. Let's say we sign the maximum of 28 (doubtful). In that case, we will need 10 guys to either transfer, get a medical waiver, go pro, get kicked off the team, etc.
Last year, no one was formally kicked off the team, and I think there were 10 or 11 guys who left.

He's a redshirt freshman next year, right?
I was under the impression Shaw was a sophomore this year. He is listed as such on the roster and the following is in the media guide:
quote:
A promising offensive line talent who goes into his sophomore season as the backup to Ciron Black at left tackle ... Played in one game as a true freshman in 2008.

But he could redshirt this year since he didn't play at all, right? And then be a redshirt sophomore in 2010.
It's not the most typical route, but I could see them doing it. I don't think he played at all this year.

Can't lose something you never had in the first place.

I can only assume you are talking about the DT kid we got from California last year, yes?

People were saying the same about last years JC. Not only did he suck and get run off the field, he also took money to go to LSU.
