So if we do get Gunner, what's the over/under on the number of games into the 2012 season before someone on the rant says we should put him in as the starter over ZM8?

Which game is Towson?

Randall is different since he offers an entirely diffrent skill set.

Not really - he's a legitimate dual-threat QB, but is a better passer than the average dual-threat. More like Ryan Perrilloux, maybe not as accurate, but a little better runner (and with great arm strength for a dual threat).

I can't help but think about Marinovich after seeing Kiel's facebook and not realizing he was a ginger until now. I guess watching that 30 for 30 has made me biased against gingers lol

Maybe youre right. But the one highlight video I saw of him he was either A) running the ball or B)winding up and throwing a fade route down field. Thats all fine and dandy but he still strikes me as 'athlete playing qb'. Maybe Krag molds him into smthg.

All I can tell you man is - the staff is HIGH on him after using him to prepare for Oregon's offense. I'm not saying he will run a completely different offense, but they're drawing up plays for him to run, ala Perrilloux - so, barring injury, he's the changeup QB for 2012. Rivers will get in, but he is a pure pocket passer with some mobility for a player his size. Mett is pretty mobile for a pro style QB, too, as shown on his naked bootleg against Ole Miss.

I like the caliber of athlete we have at the QB position, I just wish we could have a dominating QB again (2006 was a long time ago) - Maybe Mett and Kiel(*hopes up*) can be that kind of QB.

I like where we are at QB. The only concern is if ZM8 gets injured next year, we don't have much experience at back up.

I think Randall will become a "slash". I don't think he will be the starting QB. I think he will the #2 guy in a two QB system for the next 3 or 4 years, getting 10-25% of the snaps with a more option-run oriented playbook as a change of pace. He'll still get some passes in, but it will be more spread than pro style. As quick and agile as he is, I wouldn't be surprised to see him getting time in the slot as well.

If Mett has a good year next year and goes pro, then I think Rivers takes over in 2013. I expect Les to be a bit gun shy about putting in a young QB before he's sure he is ready.

What I'm more concerned with is that Gunner will make it impossible to recruit a QB next year (The same problem we had when we got RP). We better get on the dual-threat QB's hard.

Does this look about right?

It only looks right if you assume Kiel cannot outperform Mett/Rivers/Randall in 2012,2013, 2014,... If Kiel, as an EE, can get in and earn a #2 slot for 2012 I have no doubt Miles would burn his red shirt - and possibly start him in 2013. Whatever it takes to win...

Kiel will be our number 2 QB next year if he signs with Randall as the change of pace QB.
Not to knock Rivers, but there's a reason Bama, Auburn, and NC State didn't want him. And there's a reason that he's a project QB even though his brother is an NFL star...

I doubt it. Rivers may be behind in physical attributes, but being QB in our system is more about decision-making, and knowing the play-book, and Rivers has the upper hand by a wide margin.

Well see, but Kiel is an Early Enrollee and I bet that he'll take the job from Rivers before Fall camp.

The talent difference is just too much, and Kiel is a student of the game.

Which is more important when playing QB?

The Arm and footwork?

or

The head for quick/and correct decision making under live action?

I understand the importance.

I'm just saying that if were going by scouting report and everything we know about these players, Kiel is better physically and mentally than Rivers. So much so that I think he can grasp the offense well enough this summer to take his job

My concern as well but I'd be happy to have him.

Why?

Why? Why?? WHY?? Do we we have to have a two QB system? I hate the "change of pace" BS that Miles wants to run.

Auburn and Alabama didn't even look at Josh Wiliford at all and will start at LSU. And not because there is no one else to play the position. Alabama also did not offer TM7.
