Has LSU ever received a committment from a #1 rated QB? I know that Jamarcus was highly rated, but I don't think that he was tops of that class. Seems like he was #2 or #3.

Nevermind. Jamarcus was #79 in rivals top 100 behind #5 Kyle Wright, #32 Robert Lane, #57 Dennis Dixon, #70 Tommy Grady, and #71 Clayton Richard, and #78 Kevin McCabe

On paper, per Rivals this year, the nation's top safety #15 Landon Collins is actually rated a bigger get than the nation's top QB with #18 Gunner Kiel.
In the Top Ten since 2002:
La'El Collins was #6 overall in 2011, but was the #2 OL.
Reuben Randle was #2 overall in 2009 & was the top WR.
PP7 was #5 overall in 2008 and was the top DB.
Early Doucet was #3 in 2004 & was the top WR, however, Ted Ginn was #2 and Rivals incorrectly projected him as a DB.

I don't know if Collins, Randle, or Doucet would count as a coup since they are LA guys. PP7 and Sambo were huge coups from the recent classes IMO.

Gunner would be one of the biggest recruiting coups in Miles' hat since coming to LSU.
When you take into account the publicity LSUs offense and its QB play has gotten for the majority of the last 3 years, for LSU to go out and land a top rated QB from freaking Indiana is a pretty big coup IMO.
