Don't think you have been following recruiting for as long as you think, have you? He was an OT but converted to a DT by the Irish.

I certainly remember Tillery’s recruitment, and I am aware of his position change.
Point being: A guy with his size and athleticism doesn’t go from being a first round pick to out of football based on one bad coach.
I’m sure that he had a say in whether he wanted to play offense or defense. He likely would have changed positions here as well.

Tillery played OLine in HS and switched to DLine when he got to ND.
