That is not dumb. Gather's will play early no matter where he goes. His goal obviously is to play in the NBA and he should go to a program that "best fits him" and play for a coach that will help him develop his skills to reach his end goal. If you take off your purple and gold glasses, you can clearly see this. Out of all those big name basketball schools that are offering him, why would he even consider playing ball for a losing program that's in the cellar of a mediocre conference? Each one of those coaches at the schools he's being offered and in his top five are a hell of alot better than Trent. I'm sorry, but I wouldn't blame the guy if he decided not to sign with LSU.

LSU would be a LOT better if a guy like him would sack-up and commit in time for others to want to join him. It would only take one more huge commit like him to turn this program around and be immediate contenders in the SEC West (it don't take much). From there, you play in the Dance and go up against the elites and get judged on that.

Early playing time is a LOCK at LSU and his improvement would evolve much quicker. I hate to tell you this, but the great ones take it upon themselves to get better!

Kids are such pussies these days all wanting to go to the better program, instead of a program they actually love and grew up around.

All you guys will be blowing TJ when LSU is legit in the next year or 2.

Don't forget the horrible state of the program when Brady got thrown out.....

Most go to whatever school they feel can do the best job of getting them to the next level. You're also assuming just because a kid grows up geographically close to a school he automatically loves it. That's an extremely false assumption.

About 1% make it to the next level

Then why have we lost only a few players to out of state schools in the last 10 yrs?
And the same could be said for most states, TX players play in TX, ALA players play for an AL school, FL players sty in FLA mostly.

So it being "extremely" false is EXTREMELY wrong of you to say.

It usually is about love of the game and being close to family and friends for support.

LSU has a program with nowhere to go but up. But the university and its educational programs are rock solid. IT's home to him, his family is near. We are a few players away from being front runners in the WEST div. One is on his way and Gather's could be another. We have a SOLID PG coming in also. In 2 years we will be contending for the conf shampionship in the West.

A little faith and a couple of breaks and with a nice couple of recruits and LSU will be fine. Especially if men like Gathers look past the envy of others, and decide to stay in state.

I hope he looks at LSU harder.

No doubt but HS athletes rarely think this way. Plenty of them think they can get to the pros no matter their limitations.

I didn't say everybody leaves the state but just because the kids instate doesn't necessarily make him a lock to the instate school.

That's a nice recruiting pitch but if Jim Calhoun or Rick Barnes says "I can get you to the pros and you won't have to worry about building a program, we guarantee you we will be in the NCAA tournament, be on national TV, compete against the best, etc." Whichever option he picks is up to him but can't say I will fault him if he takes the non-LSU route.

There is very little in-state loyalty in basketball recruiting, unlike football.

So true. I know a guy that grew up in NO but was a die hard Bama fan.

That article was just a month ago and has a different list, including LSU.

We've had a ton of players leave the state when talking basketball.

DJ Augustine: Texas
Martin Zeno: Texas Tech
Greg Monroe: Georgetown
Chris Duhon: Duke

Those are just off the top of my head, I know there are plenty more.

LSU's future greatly depends on them keeping their elite plays in state. The 2012, 2013, and 2014 classes will be loaded with in state kids that can make LSU a power house for years. Unfortunately, I do not have confidence in this coaching staff's ability to effectively recruit these guys and get them to sign with LSU.

Interesting that instead of defending the comment or challenging my post you elected to make a pithy comment

I have defended and/or challenged that cut-and-paste quote of yours, along with the other two that you always post, dozens of times.

No longer interested.

this is not a refrendumon Brady or his coaching ability. However, it is a well beaten comment tht the program was in shambles when Johsnon took over. Far from it. In fact Johnson has made teh comment that if Tasmin Mitchell had not been injured in 2007 he would not be the LSU coach.

Now if you really want to discuss a moribund LSU basketball program look at March of 1997.

Just the facts, Bubba. You are too knowledgable to not refute the earlier post.
