Well it was reported that he was going, now I think nothing happened, but it's only a matter of time before Applewhite joins the staff

I sure hope the powers that be realize how important Frank Wilson is to recruiting. He is the absolute only reason Freak is coming here. I wasn't a big supporter when they hired him but it is very obvious that he has a lock on most LA high schools and his hold is only getting tighter. Those NO kids love him.

short of a huge difference in pay or getting a pretty good promotion I don't think Wilson even wants to leave LSU. Obviously, he's a Louisiana guy. Most people enjoy working for Les. Keep him relatively happy and we'll be fine.

I would be shocked if Wilson left..LSU is supposedly his "dream" job. I guess the only way I could see him leaving is if he would be OC, and I don't believe that will happen.

-Anthony Johnson will sign wherever Frank is coaching. I think Frank is his god father.

-Frank will make for a great OC one day, he turned OP walker into one hell of an offensive firepowered offense while there.

-Frank still has a lot to learn and he's s young guy, it us a Shame however he is learning under Crowton right now. That can't be good.

-Frank is not going anywhere this year. I expect around December of 2012 is when his name will start popping up at the smaller schools for a job as an OC.

I wonder if Wilson will be offered anything besides a raise. I don't think he has ever called plays before, other than at the high school level, and his main strength is his rah-rah attitude on the field and his charisma in recruiting settings.

I think LSU would match any raise that Florida would give him. A recruiting specialist without play calling experience can only make so much. With the complete failure of guys like Larry Porter, Ed Orgeron, and Mike Locksley as head coaches, who were both known as recruiting specialists in their previous gigs, I wonder if guys like Wilson will ever get a look beyond what they are doing right now.

Im not saying he will.

In fact, i think if he isnt at LSU, he is pretty much a waste.

But im sure he doesnt see it like that. With a heavy pay raise and more responsibility, he very well could bolt.

If FL pays him big money and gives him a promotion, it could be hard for LSU to match. What do they promote him too? How much many can you pay a RB coach/recruiting coor?

Can we get a ban on people who run to this board to start threads in the hope that they're breaking some kind of news that the recruiting board hasn't seen yet?

You aren't fooling anybody just because you ask how this new news will effect recruiting, we still all know it's an attention grab.

I mean, do you really not know what type of impact losing Frank Wilson would have? It would be negative.

Muschamp cant afford to hire a puppet OC. hes a D minded coach and needs a good hire for OC and thats the only real promotion he can get. the others would just be job titles for the pay raise and if LSU wont match then death to whoever makes that call.

First of all, calm down.

This is not what I intended by any means. I saw this in another thread and was merely starting this topic to see what other people on this board thought in regards to this "RUMOR".

I am far too busy at work to scan the internet for the first sign of news, just so I can be the one to first post it.

attention grab

If this is how this thread came across, then I appologize and you can have the admins delete it. Also, GFY! I need no attention from this for self gratification. I just wanted to know what others thought to go along with my assumption.

My opinion is that Wilson, IF he were to leave, would hurt, but not to the levels of what others here think. I could be wrong though.
Personally, I can not see the recruiting coordinator being that big of a difference, except for Freak, in terms of players not honoring their committments. I might be way off base here, but if a player choses a school for the RC, then to me, that player is not very smart to begin with. Head coach, OC, playing time, style of offense/defense, and weather would all be more important than RC for me.

Thanks for answering my question. I realize that was super hard for you, and I appreciate you giving me all this ATTENTION!

Good post. I don't think most people realize that Wilson is a great recruiter and a very average field coach. NCAA rules say that you have to be a field coach to recruit. If the rules were like they used to be Wilson would be one of the top targets of every major team in the country, (which he might already be) They could put him in an office recruiting position, but that doesn't exist anymore. That is why a lot of college teams make their top recruiter the RB's coach. Not that they don't coach their a$$ off, but it has the least responsibility of any coach on the field as far as game preparation. Wilson's OP Walker teams were good because he came in with with discipline and got the athletes out to play, not because of his X's and O's. He is a a good coach, and brings a lot to the table, he is just not the guy you would want running an SEC offense. Give him the title of Associate Head Coach and more money if we want to keep him at LSU.
