I am convinced Nick Saban is trying to make a point with Skip Bertman... until they are both retired or dead..

Can you elaborate on this point a little more. This comment has me

I think I know what he was referring to: the year Saban left for the Dolphins, it is believed that he planned to stay at LSU but that Bertman "helped" him make the decision to leave. Bertman lowballed him and said some things that worried Saban about the future. The common belief was that Bertman was worried that upping the ante to Saban might interfere with his plans to build a new baseball facility that he assumed would in some way be named after him.

This is how I remember it, and I remember being very pissed for quite a while. If this story is true, Bertman really short-changed the football program and the LSU athletic programs over all for very selfish reasons.

I cannot confirm any of this, but it was the rumor mill at the time of Saban's departure.

Bama only has one RB commit and he's only a 4 star and a soft commit. Bama needs good RB's. This could put Les on the Charley Mack hot seat if you know what I mean?

They recruited the hell out of RBs past few years though. He's guaranteed a starting job or at the very least immediate PT at LSU. Hilliard probably isn't staying this year so that only really leaves Magee on the roster. Hill is for sure gone. Brazil probably will be booted from this team at one point. TBH, RB is a little concerning next year even with LF.

Ha, Ha, I doubt it. Don't forget that Bama planted a sympathetic coach at St Aug. Anything is possible. To be honest we should all be worried about some setup with Bama.

If somehow JF decides to go to Bama, I would think Hilliard would probably stay to be the feature back. But yea, putting all your eggs in one basket like Les is doing could put the entire program back where they were when QB's were less than plentiful.

I agree. It's a risky recruiting decision and it's very stupid in my opinion to ever put all your eggs in the basket for one recruit. You don't look at the future to recruit you recruit now for immediate needs. It was silly LSU didn't really recruit RBs the past few years. No telling what will happen in the future. It's impossible to say. You always need depth.

Skip should have put his ego aside and done what was necessary to keep Saban.
What is done is done. So Skip goes done as the LSU head coach with the most national championship in the 3 majors sports.
Thanks for the memories Skip - would have been nice to see Saban beating your record right now though .......

Yep. This kid we've made a priority since he was in the 7th grade is going to turn around and stab us in the back, that totally jives with what we've seen from LF's character. If he was gone to Bama, he would've committed already, or he would've told the coaches he was no longer interested and we'd be scrambling.

This is Bama's RB depth chart for next year:

Yeldon
Drake
Hart
Tyren Jones
Kamara
Fowler
Henry
Tenpenny
Scarborough

They sure are hurting for RB's aren't they?

To be fair, I have heard that at least one of these two is most likely transferring out next year:

Kamara
or

Tyren Jones
.

I also do not consider Hart a real threat to any incoming RB. He gets reps because Saban loves his work ethic after his injuries. I see him mainly getting reps as a return specialist moving forward.

Not a big rebuttal to your point though. The biggest draw for any RB coming to AL (imho) is the level of talent that Bama has on OL and the level of OL talent coming in. That is not a shot at LSU, just a different strategy that Bama could be employing to overcome the depth issue.

to the want of actual football and recruiting talk.

Still would leave y'all with 7-8 RB's even if all three transferred. The biggest thing LF is looking for is playing time. He wants to step in and start immediately, because he knows he can. He's said this in multiple interviews in the last year. LSU has set it up perfectly for him to do this. Alabama pursuing him so hard shows me that they don't feel confidant in signing him.

I sadly agree. Yall deserve him. Having not really gone after anyone else. We have a perfect one two punch for next year. But after that, if he could do what Trent did for the first year and just be happy with 8 carries per game, then bust on the scene his soph. year, then we could keep him happy enough for the steal. But I doubt it.

Don't get me wrong, I think LSU keeps him home.

ETA, Bama's OL class just got better. We now have Casher committed.

This. If LF weren't coming to LSU, He wouldn't disrespect the staff that have been recruiting him for years by waiting until January when they would have no time to try and snatch another quality back or two. And if the staff knew that he wasn't coming here, then we would know because they would be scrambling to get other backs. They'd be making strong pushes for top backs all over.

For a # of reasons, I was hoping LSU would offer Adam Taylor last season. Even if you sign two RB's this February, there could still be a depth problem there, should either or both Hill/Hilliard turn pro. Also, RB is a position with a greater chance of injury.

But as I said some months back, I do not really think it matters what Bama says to LF--I believe he is headed to LSU. Hope he can have a positive influence on Hootie Jones if LF does make the trip to Tuscaloosa for the game.

That is a cute little story about Skip, but don't you think nick would still be recruiting the hell out of the top players in our state anyway??? He is coaching the best team in the country. The best teams go for the best talent. We kind of have a lot of talent around here.
