JJ27, I would tell my son that its too early to be talking about college. he hasn't made it to high school yet. I don't see what there is to be gained this early. coaches change, teams are not the same etc. focus on high school academics.

No, an offer is meaningless until the school accepts a commitment on NSD or later. You can get an offer and "commit," but either side can, at any moment before the letter is in and accepted, go a different direction. An offer is meaningless.

I would think it would be much easier to hammer this home when you have offers as an 8th grader. Do your work to qualify or these go away. As long as he has good parenting, which from everything I've been told he does, the attention can make him work harder. He knows he has a chance to play at the next level so he knows his efforts would not be in vain. I see nothing wrong with it at all.
