in their freshman game yesterday it seemed like every player looked d1 bound I find it hard to believe that area produces that many kids like that

EVERY high school program in EVERY sport recruits. Question is whether it is within in rules and to what extent they break the rules.

Coach Robicheaux and his staff are very good at what they do and attract families to that area so they can be coached there. The river parishes are also saturated with talent naturally so it doesn't hurt.

You really believe this?

Maybe not every one of them but all the consistently good ones do. If you don't believe that then you are naïve.

Not every sport... I can promise you that lol

Private schools do it, no doubt. But there are no consistently good public schools in large cities, because they don't recruit. Most public schools that are consistently on top are in rural areas that have a lock on all athletes because they are the only public school there, not because they recruit.

Public schools recruit just as much as private schools.

Having worked in that parish and almost every other in SE Louisiana, let me give this a try.
The River Parishes don't have to recruit.
Being on the river means these parishes benefit from industry.
These industries contribute greatly to the education system directly and indirectly via taxes.
Hence, despite having a a demographic consisting of mostly african americans, the schools also have a lot of money.
Benefits such as after school tutoring and other programs are helpful because it creates a climate of kids actually staying after school.
Since this is the case, a bus brings them home after these programs...... such as football practice.
Take away the transportation problem of kids from low socio-economic households PLUS make it part of the norm to stay after school and dedicate one's self to something
and you're going to see that boys from the boot can play
such as in St Charles.
oh yeah, add the fact that the coaches and teachers are top notch too (St Charles = #1 highest paid teachers in state)
if only we could make this the climate in our inner cities such as Nola and Baton Rouge

It's unreal the amount of kids in St Landry Parish that aren't playing football at OHS or Port Barre or the other schools because of the way the zones work and how far they live from the school, with no way to get home after practice.
You absolutely hit the nail on the head with the transportation issue.

Very close to Dakota Torbert family. He is 6'5...310 Junior starting tackle. Started playing football in the 8th grade. Kid has a D1 body and moves well. He was not recruited by Destrehan. Hoping the kid starts to get letters soon. Been to all the camps the last few years. Visited Texas 2 weeks ago.

I don't believe anything, I know it. When I coached basketball in high school there was always talk about recruiting in all sports. We had a 6'6" wing that could play that had a sister that was a star cross country runner. That's just an easy to illustrate example. You don't think that coach was in my office twice a week, and standing in the gym when said player came to visit to meet the parents? At smaller schools, they recruit kids, but just aren't successful. Again, it isn't always I'll give you something in exchange, it may be as simple as trying to talk yourself up. I never approached a single kid, but I sure as hell did my best to convince the parents when they approached me. It isn't always illegal. Illegal is when you get to fake addresses and such. You are quite naive if you think any coach, no matter how far above the fray, isn't going to put his best foot forward with a kid that could win him games. Now certainly some schools have it easier and can get kids across lines and have unfair advantages. But still, doesn't mean everyone doesn't try.

This. I know for a fact they don't recruit because I went there. The principal had a very strong stance on the private schools recruiting throughout the area and was in favor of the separation of public and private schools because of that major difference. He's a very respected guy so I doubt he'd go against his word after fighting it for so long.
The River Parish's are full of talent and the academic success of St. Charles Parish helps bring a lot of families into that area. If they ever combined the two schools, Destrehan and Hahnville im certain they would unfairly dominate in most sports.

Once coach Salt gets HHS back to where it used to be the DHS-HHS rivalry will reach levels of intensity not seen in years.

Nah they do, they just didn't recruit you.

Private schools have to recruit. They wouldn't have a single student at the school if they didn't recruit.
Public schools offer unlimited full scholarships. That gives them a fairly significant recruiting advantage over the private schools.

Public schools recruit too. Anyone who doesn't believe this is lying to themselves.
I can tell from first hand knowledge they do.
I don't understand why people get so offended by that notion.
Every school does not recruit, but generally the consistently good ones do.
