I do look for LSU to lose a couple of players to out of state schools this year early. It appears that more schools are recruiting LA. harder and I believe more recruits will not wait until summer camps to see "IF" LSU offers.
evidence is guys like monroe, phillips were prepared to commit without waiting on LSU offer.

similar discussion going on on ShagyBevo.

Texas fans don't sound like they are expecting a very good year:

They are only taking marginal recruits that they know will accept offers and aren't the best players in the state.
3-4 top 50 guys and a bunch of people nobody else really offered. I thought this year was supposed to be different.

this is easily the best class they've put together in years.
right now, they have 11 of the top 100 players in texas (using rivals, just because). last year's class had 7 of the top players in texas.i still think texas lands more guys in the top 10/15/50 than aggy does, but their class is going to be pretty damn good overall.

the top 10-12 players in the state are really good players, but the ones after that are below the normal talent level in Texas. So, whoever gets the most of those top players are going to have the advantage. Looks like anything below the top echelon of players is going to be a crap shoot. We are probably going to be in the same boat as aggy unless we hit big on the top 10, or get some out of state players. Seems like a weak year for great talent in Texas, but you know about explaining recruiting year end year out.

I've seen Alonzo Lewis play plenty, and I was shocked that he committed to A&M. I didn't think he was good enough to play for ULL. Of course, I'm not exactly a scout
ETA - Wish the best for the kid, glad that he took what was offered and gets to play in the Big12

I've not really paid much attention to the state of Texas recruiting yet, but I'm almost certain, without even looking, that they have more then 10-12 really good players. Sherman has enough talent in Texas that he doesn't need to reach on so many LA mid tier guys. Occassionally, I understand but overall his program won't be able to sustain last years success if they keep reaching on too many guys. He seems to have assembled a coaching staff that does a pretty good job of developing talent so if he ever starts getting his recruiting in a higher gear, they'll be dangerous.

I give you staff credit for jumping on guys early. However, it's early and 2012 recruiting has just started to heat up. It's will be interesting to see how A&M's class shapes up after UT, TCU, TTech, Oklahoma, LSU, Nebraska, Arizona, ASU, OSU, and others start sniffing around. These kids haven't even started camping yet and that is when we will see the pressure start adding up.

Agree 100%, that’s why running around hooping and hollering on March 1st might be a little premature. It is fun to follow in the off season, but we’ve had our share of Fobbs moments as LSu and most others have as well. Hanging on the words of 17 year olds is no way to add years to one’s life.

SECede AG,
We appreciate your honesty here. Don't let the haters that see your A&M logo and don't bother to evaluate your post keep you from sticking around.
I really appreciate the non-LSU fan's view in these situations. I have a number of friends who are Aggies and like to see A&M doing well.
Following recruiting has gotten crazier by the year.
Some of the posts on ShaggyB lead me to believe the teasips are worried about losing recruits, whether it is to A&M or someone else. For them to be saying this is a bad year for recruits in Texas is just rediculous-there are no such bad years in this state!
