I think the question is how many players have developed beyind expectations from the time of recruiting
The guy that really comes to mind is Lafell.
I'll go in the I trust the coaches line. Ciron Black, Lyle Hitt, Brandon Lafell, Trindon Holliday, Quinn Johnson, Tyson Jackson, Chevis Jackson and Brett Helms were all three star prospects who were MAJOR contributers while five star guys like RP and X. Carter don't contribute at all and five star guys like A. Woods and K. Williams aren't the world beaters they were projected to be.

this kid has been to camps of both major bama schools
This is what is most concerning. Those that have compared this recruit to Josh Downs are out of their mind. Downs was in the All American game, this kid has ONE offer.

I have not read all 14 pages.
Is this a joke?

Mathieu camped at UT. He was impressive, but did NOT get an offer.

he was the absolute buzz at the camp. You know an offer was on its way, and I can promise you Kiffen is still recruiting this kid.
What has anyone heard of Blackmon?

This has to start SOMEWHERE.
Had UT offered him at that camp, people would have said "who?"
Skill positions are gonna always get more 'buzz'. An overperforming WR or CB is gonna get noticed and talked about by the people at the camp. I would not really know HOW to watch an interior lineman and decide he's buzzworthy.
I suspect the coaches do. I've already posted that I wonder what the hurry was.

It does kind of sound like a Benny Logan situation.

So you agree then that, outside of getting some "buzz" at a camp, his situation is basically the same as Blackmon's?
Except, of course for your indisputable knowledge that Matthieu was going to get an offer (someday) and your indisputable knowledge that Kiffen's still recruiting him (along with 500 other kids).

The thing is in this day and age how can you honestly come out of left field and be offered by LSU? I mean there are 7th graders with offers out there.
In Basketball this NEVER happens bc of the AAU leagues and such, but prospects in football do tend to come from no where a lot. The kid from St. Aug is a prime example. Nobody heard of him then he had 2 real impressive camp workouts and all of a sudden he is a 4* recruit.

mathieu's situation is nothing like blackmon, he had blown the UT camp up and was getting pub before he camped at LSU, outside of his coach and parents no one had ever heard of blackmon before yesterday

Yes, but had UT offered, it would have been a good move and their fans would have been saying "Who the hell is TM?"

there was no buzz surrounding blackmon, no one even knew he was there while TM was making HUGE waves at both camps. it doesnt matter anyways because if auburn or bama offer he will bolt

where did you get this impression?

"I wouldn't say that it's over with, I'll give some other schools a look but I'm pretty sure I'm going to stick with LSU," Blackmon said.
Sounds like if this kid receives an offer from either BAMA or AU, he will bolt.

A bunch of Queens who think they know more than the coaches!
Posted on 7/24/09 at 9:24 am to seeLSUrun
You forgot a few key people that had heard of Blackmon before yesterday--Les Miles and his coaching staff, who saw him firsthand at camp, just like they did Matthieu. And Miles and his staff could give a rat's arse about stars or public perception. And coaches that think for themselves and make decisions based upon firsthand knowledge is, by the way, a good thing.

he has already camped at Auburn and Alabama, correct? I'm not sure if Bama has room for him, but if Les and Co. want him, I'm not sure why Auburn doesnt (same opinion I have of Gibson)

Dude,
Who gets more 'buzz' at ALL levels:
Interior linemen or Skill positions.
It is MUCH easier to get buzz about a WR or CB at these camps.
I do not think you or I could even tell which linemen were performing well, but we BOTH could point out the best WRs and CBs.
