He's a solid player, but short of one good year, he hasn't exactly lit the world on fire at Tulsa.

There's a reason he's at Tulsa.

So interesting to see how these kids turn out.

To be honest though, I doubt he would be playing for LSU had he come here. I don't know if he would be returning kicks over PP and he's not big enough to be one of Les's running back.

If he came here, my guess would be he'd be another Rob Brooks or Drayton Calhoun who was moved from RB to WR to CB.
Good for him though.

Yeah, it's not like LSU was the only SEC school to not recruit the kid...

You've been more optimistic about Les than I remember you in the past

Yeah, he was a teammate of Jefferson, Molton, and Jericho Nelson (Arkansas) on that championship Destrehan team.

We only went after JJ and Molton. Really, we just wanted Molton.

We slow-played Nelson. Kept him on the hook for a while, but he started looking elsewhere when it became apparent we didn't like him as a running back and thought he was too small to play safety.

We never really gave Johnson a good look. I think we saw him in the same mold as Philip Livas...a small, shifty, fast running back. We already had one of those in Trindon Holliday (queue SFP saying TH isn't "shifty.").

Commented on this thread before I realized it was two years old and that I had already commented in it....two years ago.

Not true, many including myself wanted LSU to give him a 'ship because he made plays. Every time you'd watch highlights of Jefferson the only thing you would notice was how dominant Johnson was play after play.

He hasn't done much?????? Are you kidding me????He led the nation last year in total yards per game and is currently number 8 in that category this year. Are you saying that he wouldn't help this great offense we have?

He's a solid player for Tulsa... but I don't think it's a stretch for me to suggest that he wouldn't be the same player in the SEC.

He's had one 1,000 yard receiving season.

He touches the ball in a lot of different ways for Tulsa, but he's basically a smaller, less talented version of Russell Shepard, so I have no reason to believe he would be any more effective here than the way we misuse Shep.

You may be right, brutha but I see Dexter McCluster type skills in D. Johnson. Also I am convinced that he is a much better player in space than R. Shepard. 1000 yards receiving as a sophomore is not too shabby. Also, teams are keyed on to him more this year thus the slight drop in numbers.

I'm not trying to rip him; I hope he turns out to be a great player both at Tulsa and if he can make it, in the NFL.

He's been a good player for Tulsa, for sure.

I think he moved into the top 20 of all-time NCAA yards the ND broadcasters said the other day. Rocky D was clearly a better pickup.

I wish they would look at Effrem Reed from Dutchtown - but LSU can't take every RB, DB, WR in the state - they have to make tough decisions and so does everyone else.

LA always has enough skill players, LA lacks proven QB's, DL and OL except for certain years when you have better than expected. This year the OL class is the best its been in 10 years. LA hasn't produced decent QB's going back to Eli and Brock Berlin.
