Admissions standards are not the only measure of academics. One big variable is the amount of $ the university has at its disposal. ATM has >several BILLION $, while LSU is trying to reach ~$700,000 through its current fundraiser program (www.foreverLSU.org). ATM is considered academically strong in spite of itself because it (along with UT) automatically receives a % of the state’s oil & gas royalties, while none of the other TX colleges get any of that $. LSU doesn’t have such a robust revenue source. In addition, universities are considered academically significant if they are members of the Association of American Universities (LINK ). Membership is by invitation only. UF & Vandy are the only SEC schools who are members.
Solution: Contribute to the “Forever LSU” fund & contact Chancellor Martin to ask him to campaign for LSU to gain admission to the AAU.
