Why are we crowning this guy like he’s the savior of the safety position?

I’m just spit balling here but maybe it’s because Cooley had a PFF grade of 81, which was top 15 in 500+ power five guys, while Gilbert and Burns had grades of 57

Some of yall are so damn negative lol. Hes absolutely an upgrade over what the hell we have. He had an 81 coverage grade this year which ranked in the top 20 nationally for safeties. That’s a much higher grade than any safety in the room.

I’m not being negative, just have a hard time believing this is the guy that will turn around our safety play.

Link me some highlights or game tape because I’m not seeing anything other than a strip he made and then he got tracked some by a white receiver.

He wasn't just one of the highest graded in coverage he was one of the highest graded in run defense too. He's one the highest graded safeties in the country as a RS freshman who has plenty more football to play.

I think Sage was so bad that he somehow out shitty’d the grading system.

It's because Gilbert and Burns were so bad they ate some of the ratings due to missed responsibilities. This was probably Sage's best season but we all know he wasn't good.
