USC is still sitting at 14 recruits. I'm curious to see if he can close the deal with all his negative publicity. Carroll left Kiffin fully stocked so he will have no excuses. It's his dream job, anything less then championships in recruiting and football are a failure at USC for Kiffin.

Even Carroll himself could'nt live up to expectations after his departure.

Kiffin will close the deal...this year. USC will have a top 10 to top 5 class this year.

Eventually, performance on the field with a couple of more minor (major) recruiting violations will affect USC in the future.

Carrol came in and had some early momentum with a program on a down trend. That success in the early couple of years gave Carrol plenty of room to maneuver in when the season was less than perfect.

Kiffin won't get the benefit of doubt. The USC program is pretty much at the top, with little room to go further. Any misstep - recruiting, field performance, etc - will be magnified, especially with his personality and baggage. Unless Kiffin can win the BCS in two years AND win the Pac-10 in years 1 and 2, then he will be considered a bust. The fanbase's expectations are at level 10 (sounds similar to LSU's?) and anything less than level 11 performance is unacceptable.

Kiffin will be rich, and he will be an OC coordinator for the rest of his carreer come 2014..

Agreed. He really didn't have to do much other than keep the current class intact and woo one or two other prospects...

From the Pete Carroll era, USC pretty much knows what's coming. Very likely that the 2005 season's wins will be forfeited, and we will lose 2 schollies for 2 years, and be placed on 5 years of probation. None of that probation will affect TV or post-season appearances though. For practical purposes, this hurts the walk-ons who earn scholarships: Clay Matthews was one.

Down trend? We were pretty much the dregs for a while under Hackett. Losing umpteen games in a row to ND and the bRuins in the 90's was and is unacceptable.

This I absolutely agree with.

USC will be in the top 5 for sure.

We have a very realistic shot at the number one class.

Lots going on behind the scenes and a very very realistic shot at having 6-8 5* signees.

LA Trojan-- we will not get sanctioned as much as you think, if at all.

I for one hope he gets every top recruit in the nation and still falls on his face...simply because he is a douche...regardless if he is at USC, UT or wherever...

Seriously...no offense to USC fans...just never have understood what he has done to warrant the jobs he has rec'd...and no one can ever explain the answer either...how many secondary violations does a guy get before he gets slapped?

And under the sheets? Bet Kiffin is finding hostesses much easier to recruit in California.

I completely agree!

I mean how many more times does Mark Richt (since UGA had the most secondary violations last year in the SEC) cheat the system before he gets slapped as the dishonest cheater he is???

And also, what's the big deal with Auburn's Big Cat weekend? That was just a perfectly honest mistake. Auburn unwittingly took six recruits out to Toomer's Corner where coincidentally hundreds of people just happened to be rolling the trees (apparently after a big victory in the intramural ultimate frisbee league). And it's not like anyone except recruting websites, media outlets and businesss were publicizing a recruiting event (which is a violation within itself) at that exact same time and at the exact same place. That's faaaaaar more innocent than using a fog machine or mentioning a recruit's name and saying he's a good player on the radio.

And you're right about Kiffin's coaching credentials. He doesn't have the amazing 5-19 record Chizik had before he was hired at Auburn.

Really compelling points there Aubie83. Thanks for demonstrating your ignorance on the overall picture.

Bottomline-- if Kiffin's a douche then Chizik is a turd sandwich.

You mean hasten the onset of sanctions and probation. Probably so.

I agree at least on the PC era. With Kiffin and his baggage/reputation, a couple of new minor infractions will be blown out of proportions as a lack of institutional control.

Seriously, Kiffin is walking on eggs yet the position nearly demands him to control the spotlight. That is a tight line to walk.

The whole Kiffin thing has been hyped by the media because:

A. It's USC

B. Coverage is of serious interest because the Southeast is the largest viewing area for CFB and LA is the second biggest media market. Ratings are what drive coverage.

No offense, but if the same scenario played out at LSU, do you think it would dominate national media like it does if you're USC? Regionally yes. Nationally no.

Gene Chizik is not the one going out running his mouth as if he is some top tier coach. He came to Auburn and has turned the program around the right way. Sure there were a couple secondary violations, but if you look at the big picture which team will be on probation first, Auburn or UT or USC? Lame had UT already heading in that direction and USC will probably be put under a microscope now that he is there...Say what you want about Chizik, but our coach will still be our coach in 4 yrs...yours will fail and be looking for a new job hopefully as an OC...Lane Kiffen is the turd and you know what they say...you can't polish a turd...

Makes no difference. PC courted the "Hollywood" image and the Los Angles location is both a curse and a blessing. At times, it works for USC and against a school like LSU. Those lights can be blinding. Other times, it becomes a magnifying glass while schools like LSU don't get the national negative press.

Wow! Amazing how you can predict the future!

Especially when it is just your opinion.

Here's reality:

*Do a little research on why Kiffin ran his mouth. There was a reason and it worked. And recruits listened.

*Nothing is going to happen to USC. There is a possibility of probation, but that is even remote.

*Turning things around the "right way" does not include recruting violations, especially ones that are blatant and premeditated as in Auburn's case. But it's easier to follow the herd and say Kiffin was the bad guy, when he did what every other coaching staff in the SEC did the same types of things. The only SEC school that had no recruiting violations last year was Kentucky. They are the only ones doing things the "right way".

*How do you know Chizik will be your HC in four years? How do you know Lane Kiffin won't be ours? Ohhh your opinion again.

*You can Kiffin whatever you want. Chizik is a giant douche in my opinion.

Actually I have nothing against Chizik. Auburn is a non-factor in CFB so I care as much about them as I do Baylor, SMU, Wyoming, Ball State and many other similar programs.

Oh I agree.

But hype is just that-- hype.

USC, as institution, has done nothing wrong.

Those in the know are predicting USC, at the most, will get a slap on the wrist for letting outsiders into the locker room.

That's it.
