Second, and more importantly, I'm not merely interested in winning ten games. I want to dethrone Bama and become the premier program in the SEC. To do that, we can't cede incremental talent advantages to Bama, especially with in-state players
Literally 2 years ago we were the premier program in the SEC. Beating Bama AT Bama and winning the SEC. We had maybe the hardest schedule in the history of college football and torched everyone minus Alabama. We literally had the worst luck we could have possibly ever had in having to face them again.
There is not a gap between LSU and Alabama. I say that confidently because you can look at the last 5 times LSU and Alabama have played. Our schedule is way way harder than there's so I'm sure this season we will have more losses, but I don't think Alabama is far superior. I think the media likes to say they are, but when I see LSU and Alabama play it is a very close hard fought game. LSU statistically outplayed them last year, so I can't say they are more premier than us. We've each been to 3 BCS title games, they just happened to beat us so they have one more than we do.

If we don't start trying to analyze and fix the problem it is only going to get worse and that will not be good for LSU.
I would love to see a graph of all Louisiana players that were offered by Bama and LSU

It actually hurts losing a high profile in state guy more than his talent going to Alabama. LSU will be fine in the talent category, but really needs the expectations among elite HS players to be that the in state program is the one to attend.
Great post and exactly how I feel about the whole thing. We will be fine talent wise, its the perception that takes a hit.

How is this 19 pages and counting? This was the worst kept secret in the history of recruiting.

Gah, all these negatigers acting like Cam would ever commit to Bama! What's wrong with you guys? I think we should ban them.

Here is the problem. As a state we produce GREAT talent and opposing coaches know this.

Best part about all this is that everyone forgets that we won the LSUvBama battle last year for the #1 in state guy with Beckwith. And yes, that includes me not giving a frick about the fact that ESPN said Tim Williams was the #1 guy.
Yes we did but we were sweating the sh*t out of it too, and if Darry didn't play for LSU I truly don't think we would have won that one either.
So we got 1 of the past 3 in-state top recruits LSU - KB, Bama - LC & CRob. From a pure numbers game "they got 2, we got 1" sense we are losing that battle.

That's seriously the most pussy and idiotic thing I have seen. Very ignorant. Bama's o-line blows, they have to have top talent like him. Some of you LSU fans are ridiculous at times and have no appreciation for the prestige established here.
I hate to admit it, but they're actually right. Can you name the last o-lineman we've had drafted in the first round? I can't. Bama had 2 taken in the first last year alone. They had as many lineman taken in the 1st round last year, as we've had linemen drafted since 2007.
I love LSU and hate Bama, but we don't produce a lot of NFL linemen for whatever reason.

Cameron sims will be lucky to ever see the big stage at Alabama... and Cameron robinson wants to stick around with him, it was a recruiting tool that Alabama offered sims to get CR, sucks for sims but he put it on himself

It seems like Bama gets a top ten LA guy every other year and even at that point, only one or two of them pan out to the superstar status that comes with five star status.

I simply can't agree with that. Whoever LSU signs to replace Robinson will be a lesser ranked player, less desirable even according to our own staff. Bama gets an incrementally better player, LSU gets an incrementally worse player. Over time, expecially in a series that has been markes by close games, those incremental differences translate to wins and losses.
You do realize that the rating system isn't always right? The #1 pick in last years draft was a 2 star out of high school who didn't even make all state his senior year. Oh yea and he is also a Left Tackle. Loosing Cam will hurt our pride more than it will affect wins and losses for LSU.

They had three beasts on the O-line that would have been drafted no matter where they went just like Crob. The o-line they trotted out against VT last weekend sure looked a lot worse than what we have seen here at LSU regardless of how many first rounders we have had. There has been alot of attrition at the O-line position for LSU over the past several years. How many times have we had to request medical redshirts for 5th year seniors only for them to come back and re-injure themselves in their sixth year?

LSU is loaded with guys who had Bama offers.
Just putting that out there.

In the end, the perception takes a hit. Talent wise we will be fine, we'll just find another great lineman.
It's the fact that all of these HS kids are seeing 2 top recruits in the country leave the state. That kind of sucks, but we will be fine. You move on, can't get everyone.
