Is this where they get their offers and then go play it off against other teams

In the business world, where tradition(how it used to be) is no factor, they call those negotiations. Capitalism at its core. Everyone loves it as long as they're benefitting. When they aren't, socialism rears it's ugly head through even the most dedicated of capitalists. Rules for thee, not for me.

There would be very few if any people wanting socialism if we had true free market capitalism. Sadly, we don’t have true free markets and are dealing with crony capitalism. Sad. End of rant.
