It is exciting when you hear about all the people we have already offered and more so when you hear and see how great the 2013 recruiting class will be. However what worries me is that no matter how hard Johnny works his tail off, we still just don't have enough to appeal to these great recruits.

We have fallen so low in basketball that it may take a long time and a lot of luck to get us back to where we were. I know it is a momentum thing. If we can get one great player to sign then others will follow. It is just a matter of getting that first one and then having a good season to show recruits we are a serious basketball school.

That's why I was hoping to land a couple of bigs for this season. A good year could be the launching point.

It might be a good thing playing small ball. If the big leagues are "positionless" and we adapt to playing that style than we can lure the big stars here. All about developing the talent.

it's going to be one of those roller coaster 'strap your seat belts and enjoy the ride' type seasons. we may lose some games we shouldn't and win some we shouldn't. we are fortunate to have a guy like o'bryant to throw it down to in crunch time because so many of these 'small' teams don't have that big man to play through when the going gets tough and they have to rely on the outside shot.

@EvanDanielsFOX: Scout's No. 4 prospect -- Julius Randle -- is down to 10 schools -- Texas, KU, Baylor, UNC, Duke, UK, Florida, NC State, Oklahoma & OK State

Not surprising. Hoped we would at least make his final list.

@Hoopniks: Planned on ranking Grace Prep (TX) in the top 10 nationally, but it sounds like Mudiay, Mickey, Shepherd + more all went to Prime Prep (TX)

Prime Prep is Deion Sanders' new charter school. He gutted Grace Prep's team. I think he took their coach, too.

Rivals 150

New Rivals 150 is out. Martin moves up to the No. 10 player in the country. Lots of other movers as well.

Wow that's impressive. Must have him! Not surprised to see that Bridgewater is no longer ranked. If we can get Martin and just one guy out of Mickey, Shepherd, and Jones I'd be happy.

And Randle takes us out of the picture just before he gets the #1 spot.

Yeah, I was trying to ignore Randle's move to the top spot.

This tidbit saddened me.

quote:

This weekend, four-star big man Damien Jones gets the official visit process started by tripping to Oklahoma. Next week he'll check out Vanderbilt. The Sooners and the Commodores, along with Stanford, have moved the front of the 6-foot-10 athlete's list. More recently, programs like Duke and Kansas have made some inquiries, while nearby LSU has been surprisingly quiet in his recruitment, choosing to focus more on another local five-star in Jarell Martin.

You never know about these things. Sometimes players are similar and/or don't want to play together, so you have to pick. Sometimes a player lets you know he's not interested so you move on. Sometimes schools differ in their evaluations.

Not saying any of these are the case, just that you never know the real story. And I doubt LSU has quit recruiting him, or even slowed down. I think that just means Eric Bossi hasn't heard as much about LSU.

Sweet. That would be a huge pick up. You know, he's Russell Shepherd's brother.

I know you take it with a grain of salt, but I still think he has to be a priority even if we get Martin and Mickey.

I know. It's a joke.
